The Scargiver Completely Changed my Mind about Rebel Moon | Rebel Moon Part 2 Review

Published 2024-04-26
Zack Snyder's highly controversial space epic is back for round 2! Only four months after the release of Part 1, we're checking out Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver.

To the displeasure of many of you, I actually enjoyed Part 1 of Zack Snyder's newest story. But Part 2 left a very different taste in my mouth. Certain things I was willing to overlook in Part 1 never coming to fruition in Part 2. And what's worse, some of the attempts to fix these problems were done in some of the laziest ways imaginable.

Unfortunately, I don't have as much praise for Zack going into this video, but I do try and be fair and point out some of his positives. Such as his ability to really bring the Village to life.

If you don't want Spoilers, be sure to catch the movie on Netflix first. But beyond that, let's take a deep dive into Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon!

  • @Emanon...
Change my mind too. I thought: Maybe he can save it in part 2. I will give Snyder this, though: it left me scarred
  • Kora killed a child(yes somehow the princess returned) but Kora doesn't regret shooting that child, she's more upset that her evil adopted dad turned on her. She kills medics, coal shovelers and an enslaved goddess-like being, she is not a good person. In the video I did I said I wasn't sure if Tarak was worse than Kora but on thinking about it, I think he is. At least Kora admits in the end what she did to everyone, while Tarak lied to them about wanting to protect his mother, when in actuality he just stood there and let her needlessly, stupidly kill herself.
  • Maybe millenials and gen z have a higher cringe factor due to watching it constantly. But as a gen x who is used to good tv and movies I couldn't even make it through 10 minutes of part one. I was like why am I wasting my time? This gives me NOTHING!
  • I had Zero Expectations to see this Sequel and I won’t even watch it as I don’t care about Snyder’s Movies Anymore since BVS.

When i watched part 1, i knew the wheat subplot wouldn't matter in part 2. I figured a general would say i dont care about the wheat blow them up from orbitm

The eternal teenager and sweet lamb Sofia as a stormtrooper is a funny joke!👍😘🐑🍑🤣🤣🤣
  • Kora really fails as a main hero (and I say that as someone who likes Sofia Boutella as an actress). She’s a child murderer who was fully willing to go along with slaughtering the royal family. And she only leaves when SHE is betrayed. And she has a chance to kill the guy responsible, but doesn’t and instead kills random guards. Also having her mercilessly gun down doctors/medics who were just trying to treat the wounded soldiers, and random guys just shoveling coal, was a weird choice as well.

Great breakdown, I pretty much agree with everything you said!

I'll probably watch the directors cuts sometime after they come out. I don't expect them to be significantly better though, maybe just more violence and sex since that's what it sounds like they will have. There are times where they started to set up opportunities to let characters grow, but it's never realized. Kora cold have been shown to become more compassionate and break away from her programming. Nemesis could have taken on more of a motherly and protector of children role, setting up to her last fight. These never happened, and the weird timing of the sequence of events being over just a few days in part two didn't allow this either. It's like the scene where the banners are given out and by Sam - you can see where Snyder intended to take those characters, but it didn't feel earned because much of that admiration isn't actually shown on-screen, and it's also stated that the group outside of Kora and Gunnar only has been there for a few days given it was only five days between their arrival and the final battle which isn't much time for the heroes and the villagers to get to know eachother.

Wow... I applaud your analysis. For me its really hard to even asess the movie because its a soulless void. Sanctioned theft of my time and money, a deadweight. So inert and generic to the point of being laughable. But i enjoyed your analysis, its food for thought. Thank you.

I haven't watched Rebel Moon 1 or 2. I just enjoy watching people ripping on it. Because Snyder deserves it.
  • @Dorask
You are first reviewer I see to advise to watch this movie first before watching this reviews. All the other reviewers ask you to skipped it :)).

No it didn't, stop the lies. Rebel moon 1 and 2, worst movies ever made in the history of the universe!

Nothing from shynder has truly impressed me. 300 was fun but inaccurate as buggers. Its always been style over substance. The extended justice league was more fluff then necessary. I watched that on double speed and felt I missed nothing. Hes got cool visusals, but pretty colored turds need to stop happening. Synder is not a visionary. He is a hack. The weird tech in this moive and inchoherent vision overall in any of his movies should be apparent by now. The MOS parents were NOT the hero'es parents we knew. They were as much villian as anyone else. Lex Luther was a whacky incoherent child that made no sense. It took several watches and several videos of this movie to make any sense of b v m.

People often forget Star Wars' original rough cut was a slow, expository mess, until George Lucas hired three new editors (one of them his wife at the time) to create a more exciting cut of the movie, which contained 30-40% different footage from the original cut. A different cut of Rebel Moon wouldn't fix how derivative it ultimately is, but at least it could have been more fun.
