. "In this fascinating and educational video, join us as we take a Boeing 747 First Officer out of their comfort zone and into the cockpit of a Cessna 172, flying an IFR flight over the challenging terrain of Alaska. Alongside the expert guidance of Chris Palmer from Angle of Attack, you'll witness firsthand the challenges of operating a smaller aircraft in the extreme weather conditions of Alaska.

This video covers a range of topics, including flight training, instrument training, IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), IMC (Instrument Meteorological Conditions), IFR navigation, IFR approach, IFR landing, pilot certification, instrument rating, flight school, aviation education, instrument flying, aeronautical decision-making, flight planning, and weather analysis.

As the flight takes off, you'll witness the careful attention to detail required for successful IFR flight, from managing the instrumentation and communicating with Air Traffic Control, to navigating the complex weather patterns that are typical of Alaska.

Throughout the video, you'll see the contrast between the highly automated systems of a larger aircraft like the Boeing 747 and the more hands-on, manual approach required for flying a Cessna 172. With expert commentary from both the Boeing 747 First Officer and Chris Palmer, you'll come away with a greater appreciation for the diversity of skills required to be a successful pilot.

Whether you're an aspiring pilot, a flight student, or simply an aviation enthusiast, don't miss this captivating video of a Boeing 747 First Officer taking on the challenge of IFR flight in a Cessna 172 with Chris Palmer in Alaska. It's an unforgettable journey into the heart of aviation, showcasing the importance of flight training, instrument training, and aeronautical decision-making in the world of IFR and IMC flying."

I met a 747 pilot and he said when he went flying in a 172 for the first time in a decade he felt like he was gonna fall out of the sky on final lol
  • @joshuab1707
Loved that backhanded compliment, "Look at that 747 pilot. He didn't forget how to fly a plane." 😂 Gotta say, he BUTTERED that landing. Or "greased it" if you're CitationMax."
  • Really appreciate this kind of longer form IFR content. It's good to see some flows and procedures for other pilots. Can always pick up tidbits and adjustments to apply in my own flying.

Kinda cool seeing a 747 pilot impressed by the avionics in a little old 172. Really says something about the extent of the upgrades.
  • Hi Chris, great video as always. Whenever I have had a jet pilot in the left front seat of a small airplane, it is always interesting to see where they flare. More than once they have tried to land the aircraft 20 feet in the air.

I really enjoyed this one. Thank you , keep ‘em coming 👍✈️

    Really fun video! Enjoyed it.

Great job on cockpit management. Can’t beat a manual flap C172.
  • Chris, Great video once again. Looks like they got a nice restaurant there in Kenai. I have never been to that airport. Have to get it on the list to hit up while I am up that way next time. Have a great weekend.

Good video keep the lessons up I got my notebook out

We at ZAN greatly appreciate you cancelling IFR when you are able to; it helps greatly. Always enjoy the videos.

You mentioned Homer and Kenai so did you depart from Homer ? If so, where did you fly to ? It didn't look like the Anchorage airport. I have traveled about two thirds of Alaska. The only places I haven't been are the islands/Aleutians or up towards what used to be called Barrow.
  • You weren’t concerned about icing? I’m in northwest montana and just about every time it’s cloudy it’s just about impossible to fly due to ice

Do you have a recommendation for online commercial pilot single engine, land test prep course?
  • It shouldn't be of a surprise to anyone that is a pilot, that he can fully handle IFR in a 172. He more than likely had over 1500 hours in that plane, as most ATPs are CFIs to build up their flight time.
