How To RAPIDLY Lose Weight With Hypothyroidism

Roughly 80% of hypothyroid or low thyroid patients say that they have trouble losing weight.

It's for this reason, that they are often attracted to dangerous diets that promise rapid weight loss.

Unfortunately for them, instead of rapid weight loss, they are often met with thyroid damage, metabolic damage, and short-lived changes on the scale that revert back to normal the second they stop.

Which is why today I'm going to talk about the most powerful weight loss treatments that exist for thyroid patients.

If you are looking to lose weight SAFELY while ensuring that your weight won't just come right back on the second you stop, these are for you:

1. Prolonged fasting (1-4 days)
Fasting is hands down the cheapest and most reliable way to lose weight. While it is a form of calorie restriction, it works better than daily calorie restriction for patients with thyroid dysfunction (see the video for more info as to why).

2. Strategically decrease carbohydrate intake
Your thyroid needs carbohydrates, at least 100 grams per day, but you can strategically reduce your carb intake to push out water weight and nudge the scale downward. This is great if you need to rapidly lose some weight for something like a wedding. But given their importance for daily thyroid function, carb cycling works better than long-term low carb diets.

3. Zone-2 training
Zone-2 training promote more fat burn than any other level of exercise and it's perfect for thyroid patients because it's lower in intensity than HIIT. This means better compliance, more fat loss, and less fatigue.

4. T3 thyroid medication
T3 thyroid medication is by far the most powerful thyroid hormone available and it also happens to be the best for weight loss. The only problem? It's hard to get.
If you can't get T3 then opt for T2 instead which is available over the counter and comes in cream and capsule form.

5. GLP-1 agonists
I'm not a huge fan of GLP-1 agonists in general, but there's no question that they do work and there may be a situation where using them makes sense.

That said, given their significant side effect profile, they should be reserved for when all other treatments have failed!

I honestly think that prolonged fasting killed my thyroid. During those fasts, I got all the classic hypothyroidism symptoms. But I pressed on because we humans sometimes don't listen to our intuition. I am now dependant on T4 and T3. The biggest factor in shutting down was thyroid was indeed fasting. The second was low carbs. I would get severe hypothyroid symptoms when low carbing. Perhaps not to the same extent as fasting, but close enough. If you are curious about my symptoms while low carbing and especially during the fasts... Here are a couple. Mental slowness, slow reflexes, cold extremities, cold intolerance, low temperature, low pulse, edema, swallowing trouble etc... Nourish and love yourself and always honor your intuition.
  • I've done time-restricted eating for years. It's routine now, and feels good. I eat 2 meals within an 8-hr. window.

Fasting really gives me horrific thyroid symptoms. Cutting carbs really increases them aswell....

I have recently lowered my thyroid medication because I was overmedicated. I didn't know that overmedication symptoms can be the same as Hypo symptoms. After 3 weeks of lower medication, my resting heart rate lowered 15 points. 85 to 70. I recently saw studies about how a higher resting heart rate causes problems with blood sugar levels and predisposes people to diabetes. I would love to see a video about these studies. Maybe one reason thyroid patients are gaining weight and becoming insulin-resistant is because we keep increasing our medication when we shouldn't. Cuz, let's get real, it's easier to take more medication than it is to eat better and exercise consistently. We all know to watch for Hyper symptoms like heart palpitations, anxiety, and insomnia, but there are not a lot of people talking about overmedication causing Hypo symptoms, including fatigue, weight gain, and hair loss. Love to hear your thoughts about it.

Carnivore diet has been a game-changer for me 🙌🏼 My Hashimoto's is in remission 🙏🏻
  • A couple of studies I've read say that fasting works well for men but not so well for women. I'm skeptical of videos like this simply because most research has been performed on men. Can you share results that can prove these ideas were tested on women also?
  • I did intermittent fasting by my doctor's suggestion. ( can't take statins and am 30 pounds overweight). I have been on thyroid medication for about 4 years. I tried the intermittent fasting and lost 16 pounds in 16 weeks. But due to friends husband dying and helping her plus my apartment renovation (while living in it) I gained back the 16 pounds quickly. Mainly I was craving dairy and eggs. I asked my doctor why and he said " I don't know. Do a plant based diet and come back in 6 months." So I asked Google. I had all the symptoms of iodine deficiency!!!!! So I changed my multi vitamins to a brand with 100% of DV iodine. Now after 1 week I am feeling fantastic. I now will combine the intermittent fasting and iodine ( eating seaweed nori daily also) and vigorous walks. 🙄🙏

Fasting causes a great loss of energy and fatigue. For example: mowing grass with a hand mower causes exhaustion. Many people only eat 2 meals a day and still never can loose weight.
  • @lbanaei
I can’t fast at all. It triggers my migraines. I’ve had chronic migraines for 15 years and my main trigger is hunger.
  • Thank you Doc. You are so practical and put across advice so genuinely.
  • Agree, Dr Childs. Your advice on fasting, carbs, and exercising has worked for me. I found the happy spot of doing it for me.

Awesome video! My weight has slowly been creeping up on me. I have never been this weight in my life. I am going to try all your suggestions. Thanks for sharing!

Armour thyroid has gotten my hypothyroid where it needs to be .....more T3 available and 3 years later and 40 lbs lighter and healthy!

The best and easiest way to lose weight even with thyroid disease is breathing. Not just regular breathing but a specific type of breathing like Body Flex breathing will help you to drop pounds fast no matter what you’re eating. I recommend eating a healthy, whole food diet but I’ve lost 18 pounds in a few weeks eating total garbage by breathing. Fat is expelled through the lungs. Compared to sweating, urine and poop. The lungs expel the most fat. There’s a study that was done years ago in Sweden that proved this. Look up body flex breathing here on YouTube. I promise it works. Lately I’ve been doing a simple breathing technique where you inhale for a count of four, then exhale for a count of 7. In through the nose, out through the nose with your mouth closed. Do ten in the morning and ten at night and see what happens. Also, arm swings. I’m not sure why it works but it does. I wake up slimmer each morning with a flatter belly and slimmer arms. I’d have to find a video showing how to do it but it’s easy and it works.
  • Dr. Childs, I notice some supplements in the background of your videos. Do you have a vitamin line you would suggest?

You are awesome thank you for sharing ✌️💞🤟

Did you not put out a video awhile back that recommended that hypothyroid patients NOT follow prolonged fasting? Now I'm confused.
  • @gencoop3931
(Full thyroidectomy) My doctor told me to stop fasting as she said my metabolism was in the toilet. Thyroid levels were low. I feel allergic to synthroid. My appetite normally starts between 2-4pm. I would eat maybe twice a day. So confusing.
