"There was a real risk that because I'd been around for so long in government that I became the sort of ugly face of 14 years of Tory misrule."

Michael Gove sits down to his Exit Interview with Matt Chorley, revealing the highs and lows of his political career, what happened on the election night the Tories lost 251 seats, and how it can rebuild.

  • Consistent incompetence and dishonesty from top to bottom. And Brexit.
  • @YorickReturns
It was a perfect storm of being seen as too left-wing by some, as too right-wing by others, and as incompetent and chaotic by everyone.
  • Corrupt self-serving incompetent brexit austerity you can name so many reasons
  • @harveybrown37
I'm looking forward to the most Machiavellian , dishonest and corrupt British Politician of our day, Michael 'Pob' Gove in Court for his august role in the VIP PPE Lane scandal.
  • It's amazing how people who shouldn't be involved with the environment are put in charge of it
  • @paulbird3235
Gove realised he couldn't win his seat, and decided it was time to look for more lucrative employment.
  • @dievans2954
Michael Grove levelled down not up.. He was my MP in Surrey Heath and was absolutely useless.
  • The damage this man has done to the UK and still getting a platform in the media!
  • @timsmith5754
Politicians never talk about the grip Murdochs media has had on them for 40 years ❤
  • @rossvoss5408
Humility and honesty something impossible to find in Conservative Party politics.
  • @timsmith5754
Mr.Gove presumably hides away in wealthy villages unaffected by migration...
  • @deebefree
If he had a spine he’d stand up and be honest when he was in office.
  • I bet most Tories would rather be in power, in the EU and in a stable party, rather than be out of power, out of the EU, and part of a disintegrating party. Brexit gave the Tories the latter situation
