Looks like the most exciting feature of iPadOS 18 is the calculator.
  • I saw the thumbnail and immediately knew a Tim Cook impression was waiting for me

"Edge too much" into "manscaped" was the greatest Ad transition ever, and I instantly decided not to skip it, but type this comment instead 🤣
  • Well done Riley, you used the word 'rubber' correctly. Just to clarify the biscuit Vs cookie situation, here is an explanation I prepared earlier: The word biscuit comes from the Latin word 'bis' and 'coctus' which means 'twice baked' (biscotti in modern Italian). They are baked and then dried in a slow oven to help preserve them and that makes them hard. A biscuit has a snap or a crunch, and can be sweet or savoury. The word cookie comes from the Dutch word 'koekje' which means 'little cake.' Cookies are moist and soft like cakes, and are usually sweet. The word cracker comes from the Dutch 'kracken,' they are thin, flat and hard and so 'crack' when bent, so their name is probably onomatopoeic (as in, they're named after the sound they make). They are usually savoury, and often eaten with other foods such as cheese and chutneys. In the UK we usually know the difference between all these foods, and we use the words to distinguish what we mean. However we do sometimes call crackers 'biscuits' as they are really a subset of biscuits. In the US, they call both biscuits and cookies 'cookies,' and only distinguish crackers as something different. However, they do have some things such as 'snickerdoodles' that we would simply call 'cookies.' American 'biscuits' evolved from 'hardtack' or 'ship's biscuits' which were baked up to four times to make them hard and durable for long sea voyages. They were too hard to eat, and so had to have a drink or a sauce to soften them up before eating - such as a gravy. Over time Americans started adding fat and a raising agent, changing the food significantly to something resembling a scone or a dumpling but keeping the name ‘biscuit’ despite it no longer being twice-baked and hard. To the UK mind this is like taking a pizza and swapping the bread for breaded chicken but still calling it pizza rather than chicken parmigiana. American biscuits may not be scones, but they’re not biscuits either. You've obviously made a new dish, just give it a new name. To summarise: in the UK generally biscuits are hard and sweet, cookies are soft and sweet, crackers crack and are savoury, which is why they are used for cheese. Crackers are essentially a savoury biscuit however, and so in the UK we would usually say 'cheese and biscuits' for the dish, rather than 'cheese and crackers'. If you said 'cheese biscuit,' or 'biscuits for cheese' here, nobody would bat an eyelid. On a related note, we also have Christmas crackers, which are decorated cardboard tubes with a small explosive 'snap' in the middle that makes a 'crack' sound when you pull it apart. Christmas crackers are therefore also onomatopoeic, but that is the only relation they have to the food with the same name

10% less FPS for roughly 30% less power draw sounds like a quick and dirty undervolt.
  • @SkepticalRaptor
Half the episode is about Apple, and not ONE DAMN TIM COOK IMPRESSION. It made me cry😢

Riley, one day each week you should give a report dressed as one of the Village People. I can see you in those chaps and cowboy hat now.

That Siri context sounded a lot like MS Recal function. The only difference is that MS said exactly how it works, while Apple omitted the “how it works part” and sold the “what it can do” “how it can de useful”

    > "No man was born with those eyebrows." What are you saying, those are your eyebrows.

Edge AI is when the sentient AI almost wipes out humanity, but then back off to let the humans repopulate, only to once again almost wipe them out. And yes this is the plot of the matrix.
