Youtube's Secret Codes REVEALED

Has a video been demonetized, removed from recommended, or buried by search? These codes will tell you why.

When Youtube's automated demonetization bot determines that an upload features non-advertiser friendly content, secret codes are attached to the video's metadata. Some of these numbers have now been decoded. Additionally, there is now statistical evidence that these demonetized videos are being suppressed within Youtube's search and discovery algorithms.

UPDATE, Dec 1: YouTube appears to have removed the “excluded_ads” tag, but without denying the conclusions of the report. This seems to indicate the censorship and suppression is real and YouTube would prefer to hide it.

Can't believe you got face tattoos just for a video, now that's effort

“Omg is PhillyD a white supremacist?” No. If you weren’t watching his show last summer, you may have missed several of the episodes where he responded to a hamster-brained “Anti-Racism Strategist” who called him a “suspected white supremacist”. A popular race-baiting idiot and his followers attacked Phil on Twitter, and added him to a database of racists. Phil’s videos have millions of views, so I didn’t realize that was such an inside joke. I’m a fan of Phil. Because the question keeps being asked, I feel compelled to clarify: PhillyD is clearly not a white supremacist.

Youtube's official response to this video: "The stuff in this video isn't accurate, but agree it was an amazing and entertaining video! The yellow icon doesn't limit videos in search and discovery and advertiser preferences aren't used to inform how videos display on YouTube. We removed the codes to avoid further confusion" The fact they can blatantly deny this and attempt such a cover up just shows what kind of people are running it.

It's really unfortunate that YouTube isn't transparent in any way so we have to search through code to find out why everything is happening. This video is great

I can name a million reasons why this video should be seen by millions but I'll let the video speak for itself. You deserve much more success on this platform than you have. For fuck's sake, this channel is one of the funniest, most well produced and relevant channels I've ever seen. Keep this shit up, for all of us, please.

Producing YouTube content is not a worthwhile use of time anymore. The rules of the game are not clear. You literally need to be a data scientist to figure this shit out now.

jeez, I picked the wrong time to get into youtube
  • @taofledermaus
They tagged my video with a profanity code, and we might say "DANG!" at the most.
  • @Warbear
my favorite bullshit that they pull is when you upload a video and it gets demonetized, you appeal it, get thousands of views during the process of the appeal, youtube then determines your content is "suitable", they approve it, but now your video is old and not getting any new views and you missed out on most of the revenue
  • While more and more of my videos get demonetized, my views have been consistently on a downward trend. I was suspicious that YouTube was recommending monetized videos over partially monetized / not monetized videos to maximize profits, but this seems to have confirmed my suspicions. Great breakdown of the subject.

Throwing my hat into the ring here since I just wrote an extensive breakdown of this for a book I'm writing, but here are a few other things to take note of: 1. Your auto-generated captions for your video more than likely play a large role in having YouTube understand what your video is about. They certainly can't watch a video the same way a human can, but they can read a block of text no problem. 2. For those who swear in your content, there are actually two filters that YouTube checks for. One is for actually swearing/vulgarities, and the second is for censorship tones that are used to bleep out vulgarities. Businesses that buy into Google Adwords have the capability of excluding their ads for videos that even censor swearing. This probably means censorship tones are included in audio Content ID across the platform. 3. If your video is demonetized, I strongly believe your video starts back off at zero in the recommendation algorithm. This means that any watch time you've accrued up to this point doesn't factor in your video being recommended to others. You start over. 4. Currently if you're a repeat offender, YouTube sometimes demonetizes you per-emptively just to be safe. For those of you who turn yellow during upload or immediately after release, I believe this is a huge factor. That's all I could think of at the moment, but the source code discovery for repeated codes is pretty neat. Didn't think to do that despite being a web designer myself. Great video overall, honestly. Thank you for making this because more people certainly need to be aware.
  • @BijuuMike
i would be willing to bet they dont trend this!
  • I've seen some of your stuff in my recommended...I'm ashamed I didn't click sooner. Magnificent content man, really appreciate your effort into your videos.
  • @ArloStuff
All this is scary on its own, but it's even scarier when the algorithm seemingly demonetizes videos at random, regardless of the content. It's like some crazy robot that's been given the authority to shoot people based on a number of potential crimes, but it's also got damaged sensors and a psychotic personality so it just sprays bullets in all direction at all times.
  • @RapunzelASMR
They flagged my last harry potter roleplay for 46 59 and 102 for profanity XD WHAT. And I had subscribers say they didnt get my video in their sub feed
  • Un-fucking-believable. This is the end of edgy channels, the end of politically incorrect comedy, the end of content for normal people. Found those numbers in half of my videos, I finally know what was/is going on. Thank you for the explanation. Instant subscribe.
