It’s been 5 years since Alan Rickman passed away. He took on many diverse roles in outstanding movies during his career. Though he played enigmatic baddies, as Severus Snape in Harry Potter, he was the sweetest human being offscreen.

It's time to raise our wands in tribute to the villain with a heart of gold! JK Rowling trusted and confided in him. Warwick Davis, who you know as Professor Flitwick, had so much fun with him while doing epic pranks on Hogwarts students.

Oliver Phelps, or George Weasley, once was casually asked to explain to him how the iPod works. Finally, how did he happen to know the true story of Professor Snape before everyone else did?

What do his co-stars Rupert Grint (or Ron Weasley), Daniel Radcliffe (or Harry Potter), Evanna Lynch (or Luna Lovegood) say about working with him? We know you’re itching for answers to these Harry Potter queries. So let’s review the magically great Alan Rickman moments.

i can't imagine anyone else playing snape than alan rickman.
  • It's heart-breaking when I think he'll never have the chance to say "always" in his 80s...
  • "You have your mother's eyes..." - Snape to Harry right before he dies, with so much sad wonderment in his voice. Kills me every time.

The fact that everyone got mad at Snape is proof that he is a very good actor.

I never knew Rickman wanted to be a father, mad respect that he respected his wife’s wishes to not wanting children.

The fact that he dies at the age of 69 and he said that when he would be 80 he would still be reading Harry Potter made my cry 😭 Did he have to leave us this early though?? 💔

Not only was Alan Rickman THE best choice for Snape ... He had the best voice no matter what movie he was starred in. And can we pause for that voice he has....😍

With respect to Alan’s wife’s wishes, it still makes me feel so warm-hearted knowing Alan wanted kids. My dad didn’t want kids and resented me all throughout my childhood. It seems like so many dads either didn’t want kids, disappeared, or were abusive to them. I’m glad family men like Alan are around. Alan may not have had any biological children but I hope he knew he had a hand in positively shaping all the childhood Potter fans that grew up seeing him as Snape, finally learning Snape’s true intentions at the very end. In a small way, all of us were his kids.

I feel sad for Alan, he never got to experience all the feeling of having a child. He was a very good man to give up one of his dreams for his wife. It is a tough decision to do. Alan you are sadly missed!

i liked his subtle hint at where his loyalty by diverting minerva's fire attacks around him toward the death eaters behind him

Alan Rickman is one of my favourite actors of all times. I loved him in the Potter films but even more in Love Actually and Sense and Sensability.

the mark of an actor like Alan Rickman who was so deliciously good at the "bad guy" role, is seeing that while watching him you hate him so much, but when the credits roll you love him because he gave you such a performance. he will be missed badly.
  • I'm glad Alan Rickman played Snape. Nobody else would have done it like he did. I miss him. What a wonderful man he was.
  • I fell in love with him in Sense and Sensibility, and I will never forget his performance as the sheriff of Nothingham. He was a wonderful actor.
