She was told that Jack’s jump from Margate Pier had gone very wrong and that after spending 8 minutes underwater, he was being airlifted to hospital. Jack has been left with irreversible brain damage and is now on palliative care. • Every summer young people lose their lives or are left with terrible injuries due to swimming and diving accidents. I have great sympathy for this family. I hope he recovers.

The step dad should not keep saying ‘I do it myself’ about pier jumping etc. Do not encourage that behaviour when your step-son has suffered as a result of doing that.
  • It’s vital for individuals to learn how to do flips correctly. Visiting a gymnastics center once or twice can and asking them to teach you how to protect your head, neck spine etc is so vital to life! Always listen to someone trying to help you learn correctly because they are trying to help others from trauma.

For anyone reading, in lifeguard training you have 10 seconds to spot someone in distress and 20 seconds to get them and administer help… that’s how quick you need to act. If your mates in the water and you think they’re messing about for longer than 10-20 seconds, go and check!
  • So sad what happened to this young man. What I found annoying is the step-dad kept interrupting the mother and cutting her off when she was talking. At one point she seemed rather annoyed.
  • Aw, This is so awful. Im so sorry for this poor family and young boy and all the people that knew him.
  • The step dad likes the sound of his own voice. Interupting the mum
  • Poor boy ❤wishing all the best to him and family

I really! Feel like this kayaker is a hero and also it's a miracle that he survived this accident

The flip knocked him out, it was the fact he then spent 8 minutes under water that did the damage.

I am sending out my thoughts and prayers and love to him and his family and friends
