My experience has shown me no one knows when to give up any power or independence. As the "Oldest" Son, I had been tasked with the Taking the keys away from both my Mom and Dad, It was one of my most difficult life experiences, No success with my wife's parents and they had multiple accidents before strokes made the decision for them. My own siblings and family members were the main obstacle against the stopping of driving, Endless Denial is the norm.
