Cal Kestis: Child of War

Cal did something unique that I thought no other Star Wars character could, which was make me ok with the idea of someone besides Luke rebuilding the Jedi after defeating the Empire. His struggles, his courage, his character arc, his lessons, his family, his perseverance as a Jedi in spite of everything, all of it is the origin story of a man who could have grown to be one of the wisest, most thoughtful and compassionate Jedi ever. There is no other character who has made me feel like they’ve earnt that mantle and responsibility since Luke, he truly is the definition of what it should mean to be a Jedi in the post-Imperial age.

The thing about Cal is that he feels... human. He feels like he carries that trauma from beyond his years, and is trying to grow beyond what the Jedi taught him.

Cal, in my opinion, is the greatest Jedi of the new era of Star Wars, in fact I'd even put him in my top 10 SW characters of all time. He's practical, resourceful, fearless, and he's not afraid to live a little and still be human despite being a Jedi which usually means discarding your personalty and rejecting your emotions, and he feels like an everyman like Luke Skywalker or Kyle Katarn. Fallen Order is one of the best written Star Wars games I've ever played.

Cal is easily up there with Ezra Bridger and Ben Solo/Kylo Ren as one of my favorite characters of the Disney era of Star Wars. He's more than earned his spot as one of the most developed and layered Jedi's on screen. I really honest to god can't wait to see how his story ends in the next game whether he goes out fighting Vader or spends the rest of his life on Tanalorr.

To me Cal is my Luke skywalker. I love Luke but it’s like Cal is the legends version of him for me now. I love Cals character and his story so far
