i think phil would probably enjoy creative mode a lot more than survival mode, because it is way less stressful as a beginner and you can basically just do whatever you want... provided that he gets at least a little bit of guidance so he's not completly overwhelmed with what he can or should do

Important tip: The enemies spawn in darkness, not just at night. Your cave isn't safe if it's dark! Put up torches!!

Phil should just do a live playing minecraft so that he can have the chat help him out and give him tips on what to do. :)

Important info for Phil: get wood planks first, and make a crafting table with those planks. You can then make a lot more things, like pickaxes and swords.
