Today we're taking a few minutes to show you guys how to edge a sidewalk with a string trimmer! Conor is taking the helm showing you guys how he does what he calls a flip edge technique, which allows him to get an incredible finish while edging a driveway.

This technique is what a lot of the pros do when trimming a sidewalk when they don't have time to grab the edger, or they simply don't have a secondary edging tool. You can still get a quality edge and a great finish by flipping the trimmer on it's side, and leaving a mean edge!

What's your guys technique for edging a sidewalk? Do you guys use Conor's flip edge technique, or do you do something different? Let us know in the comments down below!

  • What’s your guys technique for edging? Do you do it the way Conor does or some other way?
  • @lionheart4529
16? Dude carries himself like a 30 something year old vet who’s been at it for a long time. Hats off to him!!!
  • @TheMoparGarage
That kids attitude is so good! I’d kill to have him as an employee. So passionate for lawn care I love it.
  • This young man is so impressive. Not just the trimming, but the way he works.
  • I can’t even believe that this “kid” is 16 yrs old!?! Not only does he have the talent with his lawn care skills, but he’s got the talent of shooting the 💩 like he has been running his own channel for years now! Mad props to this kid and his parents for that matter! I know they must be super proud of raising such a wise beyond his years kid that has a work ethic to back it up!!
  • As a 25 year vet, I’d say this was good information for anyone trying to learn this. My technique is walking forward. To each their own.
  • You always motivate me to have a lawn care business in the future. I have been mowing yards and watching your videos since I was 11 years old. And I am 14 years old right now and still mow neighbors yards for them for good money.😊😊😊
  • Connor is amazing and it was pleasurable to watch his work. Very mature guy, too. Love it! Thanks, guys!
  • @TheNicedog
Been mowing and string trimming since i was 10. i have literally never used a stick edger. always used a trusty weed whacker for everything lawn maintenance. and ill tell you what you guys in Michigan definitely know your grass. That kid is 16 and really does know how to control that weed whacker. I know guys that take years to get that good. and some never do. Honestly so many techniques to a string trimming like connor says. But the most important thing is that when you start on a property that you are consistently doing something from start to finish. Not always about speed. but consistent clean cuts. Honestly wish i had a kid like that on my crew.. hes a beast for his age and really shows a passion for mowing. much respect

I learned how to flip edge when I first started mowing a couple of years ago. It's so much faster and gets a much better result on already established edges. My technique is to have the powerhead under your elbow with it resting on it. It allows me to go both forward and backward and be quite precise with both directions.
  • @jakel.1724
I like this kid I feel like he’s very intelligent. Understands he’s not the goat. Or there’s millions of ways to do the same job. But also knows he’s put a lot of hours in. Good job give him a raise
  • To avoid the line wrapping around my hand when re-stringing, I just stand behind the head when I’m winding it instead of facing it. It took me a long time to figure that out. 😂 I still learn new things on my own all the time but when I watch YouTube videos, it’s a crash course—great that y’all pass your knowledge along—thanks!
  • @chargerman165
I like that you kinda sponsor the younger guys and great to see them working. Loved when he said he agreed with those who said he needed a haircut and that he parents would too. He also did he could not afford it and if that were true I would pay for it. Love these videos! Oh I am an older guy and just learned to flip edge but also have an edger. Prefer flip edge and man he is fast at it.
  • @icemanrrc
Edgit Pro. By far the easiest, fastest, straightest and the crispest lines. I’m surprised that you haven’t tried one of these Brian. I have one trimmer set up with the Edgit Pro spooled with .080 Husqvarna Titanium Force to get even crisper detail. This attachment also makes it easy to trim around light bank work or around utility stations, allowing you to help match the same height of cut of your mower instead of traditional trimming where you may scalp in these areas. By far the best investment for any trimmer.
  • @MemoriesRR
Connor is a great young man. Take whatever you’re doing now seriously, know your job and do it well. Then the sky is the limit in your future whether it’s staying in your present occupation or moving to other fields of endeavor. You will succeed.
  • @MaryOKC
Considering his age we should be proud of his parents for training him up in the way he should go. A smart young man who is enterprising.
  • @zalapski9399
Gotta trim from the grass side when possible. Gives that slight angle to the grass away from the sidewalk.
  • @Jonny_B410
Conor you awesome! I just bought a Stihl straight shaft trimmer and it's a huge learning curve after using cheap curved shaft trimmers for 25 years. I've watched this video in slow-mo just to get an idea on how to start and its been a huge help. Thanks!!
  • Great tip about paying attention to the direction the head is spinning & not running full throttle. I used a 19v trimmer for years. My recent upgrade to a 40v resulted in me shattering my storm door. Which honestly, I’m grateful it was only that and not a car or house window.
