Mellisa Weaver was certain she aced her job interview. However, she was stunned when she received a rejection email and asked them what went wrong. Although she had the skill set they were looking for, Weaver was told there were concerns she didn’t put enough effort into her appearance. She says the only thing she “didn’t put effort into” was doing her makeup. Inside Edition’s Alison Hall spoke with the job seeker.

    The most surprising thing about this is that the recruiter actually responded back instead of using an auto-generated email that can't be replied to.

    Hmmm, just thinking... If she were to have allergic reactions from makeup, then denying her a job based on not wearing makeup would be discrimination based on a medical condition, riiiiiiight?

    That’s wild. She looks very modest yet professional. It’s creepy as hell if the employer is expecting a certain level of sex appeal from their female employees.

    I read an article nearly fifteen years ago that said employers perceive women that wear makeup as more capable than women that don’t. As someone that doesn’t wear makeup, this quote is something I think about often.

    As a Recruiting Coordinator, this is appalling and out of line. You absolutely dodged a bullet. She could have put her company in jeopardy of a lawsuit.

    At least the interviewer told her why she wasn't hired. Most potential employers will not state the reason for the rejection.
