I rented a jackhammer to demolish a patio. These are three things I wish I knew before I started.

TLDR:

You will need to rest. A lot.

  • So I’m 5’11” and 145. I can run a 90 pound air hammer. Granted I don’t do it very often. The electric ones like you have are heavy but I think 75 pounds. The single point tip is probably the most effective for what you’re doing. You will bury the tip a few times until you realize not to. Take smaller bites. Once a hairline or just above a hairline crack is formed try to lift up on an upstroke. It doesn’t matter if it drops back hard the hammer will take it. Get a few going then use the whole hammer as a lever to separate pieces. Use gravity to your advantage, so start at the top if you’re doing like stairs. Clear the area away from the piece you’re trying to separate, meaning if there’s a pile of broken concrete next to it, the newly separated piece needs a relief area.
