Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, and Dennis Hoey star in this loose adaptation of Conan Doyle's Musgrave Ritual. Dr. Watson, while attending to convalescing soldiers at Musgrave Manor in Northumberland, becomes ensnared in a series of murders of course requiring Sherlock Holmes' powers of deduction to resolve.

I'm working my way through all of the basil rathbone sherlock holmes I can find. This one is excellent, for me it's only second to hound of the baskervilles. Quite deep and more cryptic than any of the rest. Basil is undoubtedly the quintessential holmes, simply the best.

Sunday noon, WGN in the '80s featured detective-private eye classics, I think it was called "Sunday Noon Mysteries" or something like that. Never missed them: Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Bulldog Drummond, Dick Tracy... all the great '40s movies. Owning the dvd set for several years, I've spent many a stormy Sunday afternoon curled up with a good book, a hot drink, and the cat on my legs watching this and the other Rathbone-Bruce movies. Better than a valium for relaxing.

Looking at this version...it appears to be the Magic Mushroom version with swaying walls and swimming floors. Thanks.

If only Holmes' final words about greed were true. But they could be, if enough of us chose to help make them a reality.

Alfred Brunton (Halliwell Hobbes) " I love things that have no meaning."

Nice. I had not seen this one before. It seems the other 5 films are in such high rotation no other exist.

In a lot of these films it's always the Carotid artery that's almost cut or is cut

Just noticed Brunton had a cat in his arms when he was talking to doctor Watson in the room where lady Clarinda was or dr. Watson thought it was the room The flaky girl
