Someone’s probably said this already, but the Darksaber has essentially become the Excalibur of Star Wars.
  • “you can’t pick lightsaber colors” Samuel L. Jackson- “Hold my beer”
  • There is something to consider about the form and colors of the Darksaber: Tarre Vizsla made it to Mandalorian symbolism. The first lightsabers ever seen were Obi-Wan's and Anakin's in Episode IV. Both are cylindrical and produce a blue pole or rod of plasma. This is what a Jedi Guardian's lightsaber looks like. Mandalorians think differently. In Legends, black is their color of justice, all their officially produced weapons have a lot of straight lines and right angles, and they have long experience with metal blades that are curved like the Darksaber is. Also it is 100% a weapon. There is no knob for length or training settings. You use it to cut something or someone or you don't use it at all.

I think a lightsaber could EVENTUALLY heat up Beskar, but because the Darksaber is so thin and concentrated it heats it up millions of times quicker
  • @WhitcherJames
A few critiques. 1.) When telling the history of the Darksaber in Star Wars Rebels, they make a point to say that Tar Visla was the FIRST Mandalorian Jedi, not only. This indicates that other Mandalorians have been inducted into the Jedi after him, even if we don't know who they are. 2.) Given the Darksabers' color, as well as it's ability to damage Beskar, and the fact that it reacts to its' wielders emotions. I am led to believe that the crystal inside the Darksaber is NOT a kyber crystal, as no other kyber crystal has ever displayed any of these abilities.

You didn't mention that the Dark Saber may be sentient. The Armorer notes that Din Djarin was not fighting against his enemy, but against the Saber itself. This can only mean the Dark Saber is "alive" if it is resisting its wielder.

The darksaber draws its power from its user. Strengthening under strong emotions like fear, anger, and sadness. That’s why in Boba Fett it’s mentioned your energy and focus can’t fight the darksaber or it will feel extremely heavy. If you allow it to channel your energy it will become extremely powerful and because it’s creator channeled his force energy into it it can actually predict attacks and danger. That’s how the death watch leader was able to fight Maul. It’s also why the darksaber is a symbol of a leaders crown. Because it takes a true leader to listen and act on what they are being taught from those who they are trying to lead.

I suspect the reason the Darksaber is so powerful is that it uses a black Krayt Dragon Pearl as a focus. In Legends continuity, Krayt Dragon Pearls of any color can be used to create a lightsaber, but doing so is MUCH more difficult than using any other kind of focusing crystal. This difficulty in its creation, as well as its yielding a MUCH more powerful blade, would have appealed to a Mandalorian like Tarre Vizla. The black color of the blade comes from the Krayt Dragon Pearl that was used being black in color - and Krayt Dragon Pearls DO come in black.

What I want to see is Tar Veesla’s journey to become the first Mandalorian Jedi, and the conception of the Dark Saber.
  • 7:05 that behind the back block by Pap Paplpatine was dope, makes me want rewatch some clone war fights
  • It would be kinda cool to see sith make the dark sabers crystal bleed then having a red and black dark Saber
  • @xXCORRONXx
What if the dark Saber crystal is somehow treated with Beskar, kind of like a flame aura quartz in real life
  • @masterv8775
I really hope we get some sort of supplemental material on Tarre Villa. I always speculated that his blade was black in color to showcase his sense of individualism as he was able to identify as both a Jedi and Mandalorian. Both groups probably found this odd but ironically they both seemed to hold Vizla in high regard given what became of his weapon.
  • @pucknorris3473
Ive heard the dark saber gets stronger with emotion. In the hands of maul its more formidable due to his rage...
  • I hope this gets examined in The Mandalorian Saga. I wouldn't be surprised by the Darksaber being unique as a lightsaber: The fact that it was created and fashioned by the ONLY EVER Mandalorian Jedi, a member of 2 groups whose respective religions are inextricably linked to their weaponry, but in almost opposing creeds, there's bound to be a secret power to it...after all, it was fashioned just before the formation of The Republic...so, it's birth took place during Jedi and Sith wars throughout the galaxy, along w/ several Mandalorian civil wars. The power and origin of The Darksaber is going to be one of the best plot points in the entire saga of The Mandalorian.

I’ve noticed that while the dark saber did heat up the spear, it didn’t seem to do anything to Mando’s gauntlet. I’m thinking the spear isn’t really 100% beskar like we’ve been told. Or maybe it’s just thinner than mando’s armor so it heats faster.
  • @talondyer295
Please do more on the dark saber it’s history is massive and almost unknown
  • In addition to all that was said, it could also be the shape of the blade itself. Unlike lightsabers used by the jedi and sith, this lightsaber is shaped like an actual sword and has the sharp cutting edge associated with it. This would make the blade not just more powerful, but rather more sharper than any of its jedi and sith counterparts.
  • @Vistico93
I just speculated when I first saw it in the Clone Wars cartoons that the darksaber was giving off such an intense light that it was actually emitting largely ultraviolet light (thus rendering it black to human eyes), weakening only somewhat into visible light at its edges. This would mean a creature sensitive to ultraviolet light would see the darksaber as rather intensely bright indeed
  • @bluebearie7230
from my speculation, the heating up part is purely cinematic purpose the saber did not heat up the armor AT ALL during any scene. armor pieces are much thinner than the pole of spear, offer more surface area for saber to touch - physically its much more likely to heat up to the point of red glow while the sabers' properties remain mysterious, the shape of the blade actually offers less surface area for heating things up than regular lightsaber i don't think heat is one of the advantages it could possibly has if anything, i think the shape of the saber is highly over rated, the shape itself doesn't offer any real advantage in combat (or even cutting power) and more of symbolizing the ideology of the creator the only know properties are 1. it is more sensitive to the user's emotion, often produce electricity on heightened emotion (might have affinity to imbue force powers to the blade, especially force lightning as it also draws from strong emotion; in this case, anger) 2. it seems to have stronger magnetic pull to other lightsaber, resulting in saber lock (helps with defending against other lightsaber wielders)
