Wow, as an MGS fan and filmmaker, this channel is a godsend. So much great cinematic MGS content, would love more videos highlighting CQC. Subscribed!

"you know all these skills and never used it? Why?" "Because they never programmed in the game code, Otacon"
  • I love how far kojima and his boys went just to explain stuff like that and i still don’t know how snake saw the radar. Was it on his wrist?
  • The concept is pretty similar in Tekken as well. Jin decided to abandon his fighting style in Tekken 3 (much like Kazuya & Heihachi) because he hated them both, and instead adopted his own traditional karate style from Tekken 4 onwards.

He said that the thermal suit limited his movement

I just want to see a remake of Metal Gear 1 and see a young Solid Snake go nuts...

Normally I'd say Snake was using CQC in MGS1 and 2 all along canonically, but game limitations prevented him from doing so in game, but given how the series breaks the 4th wall, I think its cool they acknowledge that he really wasn't doing CQC. Although it does make ya realize, Snake had to have been using CQC in MG 1 and 2

The real reason why he’s using it isn’t just as a counter reaction, but also because he’s old, and needs to leverage it to even the odds. He uses it loads of times outside of counters. Both CQC and the muscle suit helped him when his body failed him. He may also be experiencing some regret over killing Big Boss and brushing it off.

For what most developers would ignore and hope you don't question, Kojima and staff tried to make the inclusion of CQC in MGS4 make some sense. It's always pained Snake to talk about Big Boss. That pain percolates into combat techniques as well. Remember the man less if you're never reminded of him.
  • With so many good impressions of metal gear characters out there, I couldn’t tell if this is fan made or not until the credits

Even without CQC Snake mastered many different forms of martial arts making him an expert in hand to hand combat. Being born a superhuman, getting specialized training, and having his already physical abilities enhanced by multiple nanomachine injections makes Snake a force to be reckoned with.

Because Hideo never thought of it until MGS3. You're welcome.
  • @VenomSnake00
It's kind of bittersweet how Snake describes Big Boss, because by the end of the saga Solid is in the same boat, labeled a war criminal who betrayed his nation

Essentially he dropped CQC because of everything that happened in MG1 and 2, and went on to just use improvised CQB(MGS1 codec with Colonel). To beat everyone now using a form of CQC in MGS4 he brought back CQC through memory and genetic predisposition as a reflex.
  • @mirsimmuriqi
If Solid Snake knew how to use CQC all along, why didn’t he use it after the Sniper Wolf fight in MGS1, when he was surrounded by the guards similar to this MGS4 cutscene?

I want to play "Solid Snake infiltrating Outer Heaven" before I get to old for games. Im 32 now basically ,Im in my prime til 42 or something . So they should hurry up with buying the licence of Konami.
  • Always thought it was weird how they drew attention to it in 4. The moves that Naked performed in 3 were present in 1&2 (except for the knife stuff) just with a different control scheme. They could have been subtle about it, but I don't think "Subtle" is how Kojima likes to roll.
