How to Diagnose Appendicitis

Publicado 2020-10-29
In this video, I discuss how to diagnose appendicitis. I'm going to distill down the things that I believe are important in diagnosing appendicitis. This is not a comprehensive lecture on appendicitis but I'm going to share what I've found useful in my practice over the last 15 years when diagnosing appendicitis. Let's get to it!

Great job. Might have to take my wife to the e.r. pain started 3 days ago has just gotten worse. She can lay on left side and not be in huge pain. She is refusing to go right now (football is on) maybe later. The info on the appendix being to the back of the coecum is great info. Thanls

I love that app. Have it on my phone and can answer questions immediately! Especially useful for pre med! Thanks.

13:03 mine was retrocecal, and this was true for me! I didn’t have fever/chills, ER doc seemed like she suspected something else until ultrasound confirmed it. The ultrasound tech had a bit of trouble finding it, and apparently my surgeons didn’t get the memo so they had to make an impromptu 4th incision for my laparoscopic surgery 😆

My appendix started acting up 2 days after my boss and i had a random conversation about appendicitis... where it hurts, how fast it hits etc. the pain starts early in the afternoon, by 9pm i know exactly what's happening, i decide to wait until morning before asking for a ride to the emergency (i know i have lots of time before it becomes a problem + resting in the fetal position really helps with the pain at first...i can take this) 9am next morning my dad drops me off at emergency, i go through triage within about 2 hour, i makie the mistake of telling the young man "it's my appendix", apparently some health workers really don't like it when patients tell them what the problem is or something because he disagreed, told me i didn't have any of the symptoms and sent me back to the waiting room, it took 19 hours before i saw a doctor & finally got admitted for surgery... showed up too early & ended up with 19 extra hours in pain... :D
