Desert Range Day FPV

Published 2022-08-20
Practicing some cinematographic flying with my 5" FPV quad with some friends in the desert out east of El Paso, TX!
Watching the footage and talking to some skilled FPV pilots, I noticed a few things I could do differently:
1) Follow the canyons, trails, and terrain features more closely. Get lower, and follow the contours smoothly to let the audience know where you're going.
2) Minimize the yaw inputs to only what I need to make coordinated turns, and change orientation of the drone purposefully.
3) Establishing shots are cool, but you only need one or two takes of a pass. Break up the footage by showing off the landscape from a closer perspective, and don't just focus on the subjects (the trucks and shooting area).

Overall, the drone did great with my GoPro on it, and I only lost a minute or so of battery life over what I get when I'm really pushing the quad with no camera on it!
I look forward to getting out on the bike to film some cool, remote locations!
