In the original cut (which was only released in Japan), Eric was shot by the police instead of being injured by the explosion, and the dad alien literally rips the bullet out of him. In the international release, they rerecorded the audio of Michael saying "He's gone?" but he's clearly saying the original line of "He's dead?" (and they did such a poor job of it, you can still hear the original line under the rerecorded version), and "He's dead, mom, he's dead" became "They can't help him". I wish I were joking.

E.T: the kid is flying on his bicycle Mac and me: flings a disabled kid off a cliff
  • @medicalgirl3
As a disabled person I'm mildly obsessed with the fact that his family fully believes he would be capable of trashing the kitchen to that extent overnight
  • Fun fact: Buzz Knudson is actually a 3 time Oscar winning sound designer, who worked on the Exorcist, Cabaret, and most notably, ET

Random fact. My dads friend actually played the little girl in this movie and said it was one of the weirdest role she ever did

Flies off a cliff, survives. 50 miles from an exploding building, "He's gone"
  • Man, I hate it when I go to McDonald's and the 80s is happening.
  • @MandiSings94
The decision to wear a Pepsi shirt, while discussing a coca-cola ad disguised as a movie, is not lost on me, Drew. I see you.
  • A while ago my father told me that his sister was afraid of vacuums as a kid because of a movie where an alien is sucked up by a vacuum. I have now discovered which movie he was talking about, and I really wish I hadn't. I told my dad that I found the movie that traumatized his sister, and he said "Mac an Me?" I'm not sure it's a good thing that he remembers the name of the movie

"SON, DID YOU, A WHEELCHAIR BOUND PRE-PUBESCENT CHILD SPEND ALL NOGHT DIGGING UP TREES AND PUTTING THEM IN THE LIVING ROOM?? HOW COULD YOU?!?!?!?!
  • @Zarastro54
Mom: "Surely there's a ratoinal explanation for this." also Mom: *blames wheelchair bound son for bringing in a bunch of plants and sculptures from the outside

I've heard that most of the crew for this movie was pretty much payed in advance or something. The director was hired out of the blue, showed up and saw that everyone who could be a part of a film crew was already there but he asked for the script and was told "We don't have a script. Just start filming and write one on the weekends" so they started filming and wrote one on the weekends. Also apparently the kid who starred in this film was someone who had a condition where he actually needed that wheelchair and he probably could've been a big 90s star if the movie wasn't so bad. His career never really picked up after it and now he's an artist or something. Which, props to him for being one of the few people in this film that could bounce back into the public eye after that. I don't think there's a single speaking actor in this film that continued acting after it. At least not within decade to follow.
  • I’m impressed at the production value. They threw cars at each other and blew up a store
  • @evanlinden4410
As a wheelchair user, I'm torn. On the one hand, it's great to see a disabled actor starring in a movie that's not ABOUT disability. But why did it have to be THIS movie?
  • @Kat-iz4rr
man, I feel bad for Kurtis, he has to go on tour with a guy that thinks he’s two different people
  • The main thing I know this from is that every time Paul Rudd goes onto Conan's show to promote a movie, instead of promoting the movie he's in, he just shows the scene of the kid falling off the cliff in the wheelchair, and that's it. No context or explanation, just that scene. It's honestly iconic.

I think its hilarious that Buzz Knudson is not only a real person but he is an award winning sound engineer who also worked on ET: The Extraterrestrial
  • @catattack9575
Coca-cola wasn't the only coke ingested while making this movie.
  • @miosanchez6104
I hate it when my disabled son plants a whole garden in my living room ugh
  • When I was a small child in the early 90's my aunt owned a video store in Luxembourg. I spent A LOT of time in that store and watched SO MANY movies. The thing is, I was very young at the time and now I don't recall most of them. Except for one single movie that randomly pops into my mind from time to time. I have thought about that movie hundreds of times, unable to remember what it was called or what it was about. All I remembered was the final scene involving an alien chewing pink gum in a car. I wasn't even sure if it had actually happened or if it was just a fever dream of mine. I didn't think I would be able to find proof of its existence so I never actually bothered to look it up. But then this video was recommended to me. This IS the movie! Thanks YouTube algorithm. I feel weirdly emotional now.
