  • I will never forget that sound. Unmistakeable. One flew right over my house as a kid in the 1990's while I was playing basketball. I stopped and stared overhead in amazement. I went on to study mechanical engineering in college.

I put 15 yrs of my life working on this base with c130 and c5 enjoyed every day , some of the greatest pilots and people on earth work there, I will never forget.
  • At DMAFB I lived at the end of the main runway, nw side. One day taking my trash to the dumpster and I heard this same sound, looked up and a C5 was maybe 400 feet overhead. I couldn't move until it passed. Awesome.

Spent a lot of hours in the back of C5's. My first deployment to Iraq had 4 riverine patrol boats, 2 heavy prime movers to pull them, a mobile armory 4 ISU 90's and about 45 guys all stuffed in the back with a lot of room left, left North Island NAS and flew nonstop to Kuwait with a couple inflight refuels on the way. It was a pretty comfortable flight compared to flying in a C-130!
  • The C-5A had the best sound of all transport aircraft. Very sad that she will never scream again. :-(

My father (God rest his soul) worked on these aircraft as a sheet metal mechanic until he retired. Very moving video.
  • Used to watch them come and go 74'-76' Pope AFB. Absolutely MASSIVE!

I live near RAFB, I'm used to hearing these screaming giants flying over my house, how do I miss it!

Growing up in Frankfurt, this was the sound of my childhood. I miss it

Worked on this jet a lot when I was at Dover. Miss the sound of the TF39s but they are SO much more reliable now. 0461 was one of two "flare birds" that were A models that got flares to test how they would work before the B models went into production. A models didn't have flares when it was the As and Bs. Now its all Ms.

Imagine having one of these decommissioned galaxy’s as a permanent custom off grid self sufficient home and work shop garage, minus the engines on an isolated desert compound property.

I miss the C-5A screaming takeoff and landing like an angry 10,000 vacuum cleaners!
  • @TrainSounds
The TF39s are sadly now a thing of the past.

Worked engine shop flight line section at Dover and remember this tail number. Also worked the C141 and F111F at Lakenheath. The C5 was my favorite - it was the only one that it was an advantage to be tall lol.
