Why You Wouldn't Survive Fallout's Vaults

Forgot a few vaults. Most critically the GARY Vault and the Gender vaults of 99-1 ratios! My bad, hope you still enjoy it!

Imagine you’re just chilling in the vault thinking your safe, and suddenly there’s two Gary’s.

Gotta love that even the “control” vaults weren’t truly without an experiment. 76’s secret experiment was to find out what “the best of America” would do in an area with access to nuclear warheads.

Sad thing is. You safer in the vaults than being outside. So you basically screwed no matter what

You forgot the gambler's vault (Vault 21) in the Lucky 38. Everyone in there was actually perfectly fine for a time. It was a vault populated by entirely gamblers and every problem was solved at the table. The only reason the Vault failed was when House said "knock knock" and decided to play a game of Blackjack to see who gets ownership of the Vault (House has a LUCK stat of 10 which means the House always wins)

On Vault 17: The Master actually chose to invade that vault because individuals not exposed to radiation would not lose their sense of self when bathed in FEV and they would go on to serve The Master as generals and the like

With 122 vaults you have a 10% of a control vault and a 30% of a survivable exsperiment. And a 50/50 of a death vault. So you actual have a good chances of both death and life in a vault.

So, are we all just going to ignore that this man said you're going to die from "explosive nuts?"

34:29 Correction: In the case of Vault 111, the All Clear Signal was specifically for the science staff and security; The actual test subjects in the cryo pods were not included as they were meant to be kept sealed within the pods while the staff and security team evacuated. (As made clear in the Security Terminal entries and the Overseer's Terminal entries.) 34:49 Another correction: If you count the skeletons in the Vault and match them up with what appears to be the only living quarters, very few are actually the Security team. (The ones that rebelled because they were on the verge of starving to death.) Based on this and the fact that only one Pip-Boy is found in the Vault by the time the Sole Survivor is let loose, it's extremely likely the remaining Security won the civil war, killed all of the scientists as well as the Overseer, and then left the Vault before sealing it back up. (All of this is recorded as happening in 2078, by the way; Security Terminal says as such: 180 day shelter period when the bombs dropped, and that shelter period was already over when the Security team finally revolted against the scientists.)

Genuinely surprised that the 1 man/1 woman vault weren’t mentioned. That would be actual hell on earth for either. Especially the 1 woman one. Yikes.

the sacrificial vault is such a bad gamble because functionally if you sacrifice you will always be sacrificed eventually. game theory this would be a lose lose game. by sacrificing everybody at the same time the torture stops so yeah being the 'heroic' one is actually correct here
