  • OMG, this is a video from 19 years ago. What a great voice and music. Today holds very well. Notice how much radio stations play music from the 80s, 90s and early 20s. Golden age for music.
  • Just discovered this girl in 2024, 19 years after this beautiful performance, brought me to tears!

As a mid-90's kid, In my toddler years I had less than a handful of songs i could recognize by ear. And while they were and are still great songs... I loved them because they sounded good and had an upbeat vibe a kid could singalong and dance to. By the time 2003 rolled around, a by then 8-9 year old Me heard This song - White Flag, on the radio while coming back home with my aunt and cousins, in an old White Honda, on a cloudy chilli day. Hardly any stops or traffic on the way back home - Likely because of us kids being on mid-term School Holiday. But I remember everything about the 4 minutes in that day when this song played because for the first time, I didn't just hear a song, I felt a song. 'Til today when I hear it I'm taken back to that day in 2003. Granted, Kid me didn't have a clue exactly what the song related to or about it relating to Relationship issues.. But all I knew was a 'White flag' signaled surrender and giving up during wars. Linking that idea of Never giving up and going down with a ship like a Captain - Seeing things through to the end, ADD to that how absolutely whimsical the song actually sounds makes this 1 of my undercover favorites. Thank you for the core memory Dido ❤ EDIT : 21 years from release and This song has become 1 of those Nostalgia songs for me, rather than one I listen for the lyrics. After typing my above comment, I decided to Google and re-read through the lyrics. I'm floored. The way she describes her feelings toward her ex, where she understands and is 100% respecting of the terms of a break up... Doesn't mean she can simply stop loving him and put a full stop to her feelings. What she feels isn't to make his life hard, and she'll do everything she can to make him think she has stopped, and moved on. But she knows the truth, that her heart isn't going to let go, and that's the reality She needs to/and was fully prepared to deal with. I'm stunned by this because for the past year I've felt exactly the same, with every word, after dealing with a breakup of a 4 year relationship that needed to end for both our sakes... I'm at a point where I know what my heart feels, I'm not trying to get anything back, or even remind her of my feelings. Love doesn't have an Off switch... even when there's no power being supplied to it anymore. But yeah, Crazy, I didn't expect to comment on my childhood core memory of this song tonight, and end up creating an adult one simultaneously! Thank you...AGAIN, Dido ❤️
