😇 Convert ORDAINED to Priest • DEEP Thoughts on LDS Sacrament in LA

Published 2024-06-29
This past month, I was ordained as a Priest.

Since getting baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a few months ago, I've compared the steps of the covenant path with those of Simon Peter when he walked on water - each faith-based step coming closer to Christ.

After overcoming initial fears, baptism was the first (and most daunting) step. Next was the second step with confirmation and receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost.

The third big step for me was being ordained into the Aaronic Priesthood, which serves as a stepping stone to the Melchizedek Priesthood.

Coming from my previous Protestant background, the term "priesthood" was rarely mentioned. As I was learning various Latter-day terms, I would keep hearing Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthood. I never recall hearing a single sermon ever mention Melchizedek. I couldn't even say it up until a few months ago. Melchiza-WHAT?

During a recent visit to an LA LDS ward during Mother's Day weekend, it was the first time I noticed the typical youth age range of the Aaronic Priesthood handling the Sacrament.

Since getting ordained as a Priest, this visit SPARKED a number of thoughts surrounding the symbolism of the Sacrament, the Cup, and the ancient Jewish marriage proposals that Jesus incorporated into the Last Supper. Now, distributing the Sacrament for the first time in my life, it's added a deeper richness, responsibility, and reverence that I haven't experienced before.

  • What does the Sacrament mean to you? Would enjoy hearing your reflections below!
  • @ProdigalSonMatt
I love your story brother. I was rebaptized into the church on April 20th, 2024. I watched your journey as I was getting ready to return to church. It’s helped so many people.

You mentioned preaching about Mary. I know it’s rare. I’m a Presbyterian minister and I gave a sermon about Mary a couple years ago during the Advent season. It was part of a sermon series about the members of Jesus’ family tree. When you get past the Protestant stigma, Mary is really an inspirational woman. She took a HUGE risk to answer God’s call. Without her there is no Jesus!

How interesting ! Your continuing metaphor of walking on the water and getting further away from the boat is brilliant....and spot on. Years ago I was working for a company where I was the director of operations for their smallest plant which was in Utah. That became very successful, so they transferred me to their largest plant in North Carolina (after 3 years). When I got there my boss (from Chicago) came down and we had dinner. I had taken on considerable more responsibility so I told my boss that we would need to be working more closely together. He agreed. Then I said, "Ken, you will really never understand me until you understand the LDS Church." He blinked and invited me to go ahead and say what was on my mind. I told him that I was ordained when I was 12 and from that point on I was taught about leadership and followership and how to tell the difference. I told him I had been a deacon and that as a little boy of 13 I was made the quorum president and expected to conduct the deacons meeting (under the tutelage of an elder). His immediate response was, "Gee, I have a 12-year-old and I can't get him out of bed in the morning." This was started because he was praising the leadership I had shown in the assignment that got me this promotion. I made clear that what he was talking about all started because I was ordained to be a deacon at age 12. And, to this day, I sincerely believe that was the genesis of the success during my 51 years in manufacturing. I have a mechanical engineering degree and an MBA...but it all really started as a deacon.

David, I love your videos. I too am a convert to the Church. I previously attended a small rural Methodist Church. I converted at the age of 17 and that was 56 years ago. My life has been blessed by adhering to the principles taught in the Church. I have gained an understanding of the sacrament by letting my mind and heart think about our Savior himself breaking, blessing and passing it to me. I further think as I pass the trays to the person sitting next to me as part of my obligation to love and serve those around me, even helping them along the covenant path. Please keep up this great work in helping our brothers and sisters find their Savior. God bless.
  • As a Brazilian I’ve been a member my whole life and I love to see how the church is exactly the same anywhere in the world even here in US where I now live. My parents are serving a mission in Mozambique-Africa and it’s all the same there too, besides cultural differences from people to people, but the hearts and amazing experiences they receive comes the same way, through obedience to the covenants of God and the disposition to learn and serve. I’ve also seen my brothers getting the priesthood and now my son - my dad, husband, uncles and grandfathers also have/had it but I wasn’t around when they got it for obvious reasons - and I can see how strong a family, individual and a relationship with God can be through the responsibilities that comes with it. I love the Lord, the church and I love the priesthood! I also much enjoyed your analogy with the ancient marriage in Israel and the sacrament. Thank you for sharing your inspired insights from the Holy Ghost that I know you receive in your efforts on learning more and more every day. I wonder how much more wonders the Lord will reveal to those who are willing to learn and follow. Thank you!!
  • @tilkanuts
You're perspective as a convert who has a lot of religious experience is very profound and valuable. Thanks for sharing!
  • If you haven’t stopped by Primary yet, you will see 3 yr olds giving “talks”. It is amazing.
  • I always try to remember that the Priesthood is not something we can earn, it is a gift from God. Honoring the priesthood takes on real meaning when we remember from whence it came.
  • The LA Temple is the Temple I was sealed in. I have been married for 32 years and me and my husband and I are Temple workers. I absolutely love it so much! The Temple is a place of peace! It's been so amazing to be baptized into Heavenly Father's church! Best decision I ever made!
  • I was baptized and joined the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 15, 2024. I was confirmed on June 16. I was ordained priest on June 23. I was sustained in my calling as Ward Organist on June 23 as well. I love the Church. The Sacrament - I love the Sacrament, because it reminds me of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I am so happy and proud to be saved and be forgiven of my sins. Take care brother and have a blessed day.
  • I'm a lifetime member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints and I'm listening to this video on a Sunday morning before church. What an absolutely inspirational and beautiful message to here before going to take the sacrament myself! Thank you for uplifting my spirit and preparing me better for this sacred ordinance! 😊
  • @RunShootSki
Passing and blessing the sacrament every Sunday as a teenager is such a great experience.
  • @SuttonShimai
Holy Cow! Your musings about the sacrament and how it was like the marriage traditions blew me away because I JUST finished watching a YouTube video from Stick of Joseph called The Hidden Hebrew Wedding Ritual and The Temple. It is all about all the wedding references in the scriptures and how they match up with the ancient Hebrew wedding traditions and why Christ is always called the Bridegroom and the Church is called the Bride and that relationship. You have GOT to see that one!!
  • @ashleyricks1451
We love you David! We are so proud of your open mind and how honest in heart you are. Only seeking to know what is true. Grateful for you and this channel. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for several generations (my third great grandfather Thomas Bullock was a personal scribe to Joseph Smith when he translated the Book of Mormon) your channel brings us more joy to watch for spiritual upliftment, entertainment, you name it, than anything else available to watch on tv. My husband and I love to watch each episode of yours as a part of our date night each week. God bless you... Praying for you! ❤
  • @suzannejones20
Just love you and your pure heart, David. I am learning so much from you! I am especially learning that I have taken all the artwork in my chapel for granted. I am looking at it with fresh eyes. And the ward and stake choirs. Bless you in your journey. Light and truth will always prevail.
  • @Glissandola
Brother Boice, you are blowing my mind! The insight and depth of your understanding and the speed at which you are learning are truly remarkable and inspiring! The gift of the Holy Ghost is real!
  • @raeannhurst1022
Man your deep thinking just pulls me in!! Thanks for sharing! Your past experiences have really given you an opportunity to see things I never have thought of as a lifelong member of the church!! You are needed and loved. Thank you brother. ❤
  • @zebiraross
I love your videos and your journey. I felt the Spirit, especially when the kids were singing. I know it's been said a million times, but one of my favorite benefits of the Sacrament is that we literally renew our baptismal covenants each week! And we are cleansed and purified each week by the Holy Ghost by taking the Sacrament. To really put that in perspective is amazing and it's why it's vital to attend sacrament each week. All thanks and praise to our Savior for giving us that opportunity every week.
  • @epiphany7573
Those children were singing so sweetly. Thanks for including them in your video. David, I appreciate your story of searching for the true church, your conversion and insights. Dont worry you made the right choice and you're in the right place. Miracles follow the faithful. Watch them pour out upon you from the Heavens. 🙏🏻
