Several viewers have requested an unedited/raw video concept to some the the trips and training that we do on occasion. So come along for an inside look at a training day we had with Squirrel and some other friends. If you are just learning to kayak, perhaps this video may be of some use to you. This video is an informal look at a day on the water dedicated to improving some of Squirrel's (and all of our) kayaking skills. If you are looking for formal kayak instruction, there are many options out there to include ACE Kayaking School, H2O Dreams, ERA, NOC, USNWC and more. But if those options are not yet available to you, perhaps there may be some skills and techniques covered in this video that can help in the meantime...Enjoy!

  • 62 he young man, wants to apply for a Pete river kings scholarship! Have 2old 8.5ft creek boats, old Werner Sherpa paddle, and helmet. Been doing 1 to 1.5 class in my back yard. One day like that would be big deal. In ky 3 miles from tenn. This video was enormously helpful. Your demeanor makes u an excellent teacher. Thanks for the video's Mr. Pete.
  • thanks for your videos. I have been devouring them for the last 2 weeks... as i thought i was a decent kayaker, until i went to a rapid course that i have done before, but this time with twice as much water... i had to quickly deal with holes, swimming & snags, in my sit on top kayak... and realised i didn't have the skills required for proper white water after all... when the water was lower, i taught someone else just from my instincts, which was to decide your course and then be aggressive... but when the water was higher and the holes appeared, i lost my nerve once and stopped paddling, held on, went in... and then swam down and over the next rapids... oh, and after standing up for a while.... so anyway, thanks. I going to get a proper kayak, and get back on the horse (-: (the rapids went from class 2 to class 3 with the rain we had, class 2 was cruising, class 3 was actually dangerous given my lack of knowledge, and swimming into the snags...)

Man, I wish you were closer haha. Love to meet, I'm just getting into kayak and loving the videos. Lots of learning to do, I'm aware but excited about that part. I'm in the RDU area.

Dear River Kings, I am loving your videos. I am turning 65 this year and I am looking for a sport that can make me feel alive again. Your videos have inspired me to learn how to whitewater kayak. Even though I live in a state with lots of rivers I am unable to find the proper training. I live on the west coast and I was wondering if you offer an intensive week long training session? I want to learn from A to Z starting from beginner. I don't mind if you document my progress on YouTube. I am an avid hiker and swimmer and I am not afraid of a challenge if performed in the right circumstances with step by step training and the proper safety procedures in place which I have witnessed in your videos. I would love to hear if you offer such a class? By the way, I love your laugh and your sense of humor. It cheers me up every day. Thank you 😊.
