NReluctant's channel inspired me to review other aspects of my love for analog. I highly suggest checking out his channel. He also sells me zines whenever he can (and whenever I can afford lol). His channel link is below:

I'm fascinated that your first time watching Aliens was on laser disc in 2014 :)

Nadja! It's not often that I see that disc in someone's collection. Interesting flick, if only for the 'vampire vision' scenes shot with the Fisher Price PXL-2000 toy camera that recorded onto regular audio cassettes. Great soundtrack too, and David Lynch has a cool cameo in a morgue scene.

There are players that are able to do still frames with clv discs by using a digital framebuffer.

last analog format to be released... Donner most likely goes to the HD VHS tapes or perhaps the HD LaserDisc at 1030i.

I like LD's but the stereo sound available only ever equaled CD quality (when they added digital audio). As for Dolby digital, it has less kb/s than DVD (384kbs vs 448kbs) and is nowhere near the uncompressed high resolution surround that's available on Bluray (18Mbps!) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Digital

just starting a laserdisc collection! any tips or advice on where to find them or what is a good player? I want one where you don't have to flip disc. I don't know anything about the cords or plugs you need either
