Great review man. As you're probably aware that I'm a huge fan Atmosphere and to be honest with you this album was just good to me, not amazing like their previous album Southsiders. Its not their best album to date so far but they've made a fun, summer album that's slightly optimistic. There's a concept with every Atmosphere album, for some strange reason when I first listened to it wasn't very clear but as I returned to the project multiple times it's like as if Slug is in a happy place in his life but he's still searching (Fishing) for that one thing makes his life complete I guess. Overall I thought the album was good but not great like their previous albums. It's still better than their worst album to date 'Family Sign'.

totally agree about slugs delivery... it hasn't been the same since Lemons. Used to be so passionate
  • I liked Fishing Blues particularly Still Be There. As it comes to Slug's delivery it had changed since Eyedea gone to a better place.

Found out about the Jayhawks in 1995 (they're from Minneapolis); discovered Atmosphere on August 13 (they're from Minnesota!). Now a dedicated fan. By the way, try the phrase "180 degrees change". "360" means the journey is back full circle (like CREED) to the beginning, not to the opposite.Cool review and I have newfound respect for intelligent hip-hop!
  • Thanks for the review man! But I think you should listen to it a couple more times, there is a lot of political and personal deep things being said in this album if you really get into it. I also started noticing a lot more emotion in a lot of the songs after listening to it a lot.

Tbh you can’t diss him. It’s a legendary MC and voice like no other with delivery of his own. He’s not a DJ Khaled or commercial rapper. The guy is a poet. He just goes with vibes and writes whatever he’s feeling. Every verse has a gem of knowledge or perspective. Some can be less hyped or maybe even a bit boring to me but I would never diss him as an artist just. Don’t look back was fire 🔥 that’s the singer from parliament funk I heard. The new felt with murs is dope. Yah I just take every track he does as a step toward learning more about yourself and reality. We are just peasants to his greatness.

to each their own but you seem like you like bubble gum rap if you think slug and immortal tech are "weirdo rap"
  • To be completely honest it's WAYYYY to early to justify any type of opinion on this album. The absolute beauty of Atmosphere is that their albums, slugs lyrics transcends space & time. Listen to "Fishing Blues" more then 5x and I guarantee your perspective will change. Brilliant album. Respect Slug & Ant
  • I been following atmosphere since 2001 God loves ugly yes its a chill album yes you have to digest it 1st time i listened I was already thinking southsiders was a better recording 2nd a 3rd listen its starts hitting I like the lyrics slug props to ant, GET TO Texas suckas

I agree. I've listened to it a few times, and I'm not really feeling it. Atmosphere used to be my SHIT too. I haven't liked any of their albums since Lemons. I thought maybe it was just my tastes changing, but I went back and listened some of God Loves Ugly and still loved it. Slug sounds boring now. There are some good joints if you can make it past Ringo, but overall but it doesn't hit me like their earlier material.

  • Grow up and listen to the lyrics. Your judgement of this album means nothing.
