I know I’m not lazy. I go to work and chill as much as needed on the clock. It’s called reparations. 😂💅🏾
  • I loved this, Alecia. As a department chair/faculty member, I told my students a story about turning down a position to become campus president. To my surprise, one female African American student said, " I would never turn down that opportunity; that would be lazy." I told her that I saw it as self-care. I had enough of being worked to my core to support someone else's dream. Rest is essential, and we must listen...

“We’re afraid of being caught not being productive.” Yes! An internal trauma by itself. It’s been instilled in us that “if we got time to lean, we got time to clean.” Or if you were young and sitting around at home, your mama had to find something for you to do since you weren’t working on something.

"We make people show their labor cards to us..." Is diabolical 😩

This was right on time. I am going to play this in office ...LOUD
  • I decided today just to rest, asked God to give me wisdom on how to be productive and profitable without killing myself. I took a nap and I felt good simply BEING still. I am highly motivated, but there's a balance indeed. Thanks for this sobering word. You helping me
  • I used to have a white “friend” who couldn’t clean her one bedroom apartment and she had no kids or anything. She even invited friends to help her pack her stuff up stuff. I was thinking I’m not coming over your house to help you pack up your underwear. I have to do my grocery shopping, etc. I have to use my time wisely on the weekend. Needless to say we are no longer friends today. I think she saw people as a pawn to use for her purposes! I don’t think I’ll ever try to make a white friend again. It’s in their DNA. They are okay when you are a sidekick but let you be more successful. They will try to beat you at their own success.

Thank you Alecia. I'm grieving the loss of myself knowing that who I was, was not for me but for others. I had been told to prove my worth or else. Now I know those people were using me to feel better about themselves. Rest is in every minute of every day. Enjoy it. ❤
  • Thank you so much for this episode. It really made me think about how I was moving towards a much easier life in the early 2000s. I was ridiculed because I didn’t want to work so hard anymore. You are right. I was talked about and made fun of. I was constantly explaining what I felt that I deserved because I worked so hard. I was feeling tired and burned out then. However, no was paying me any attention. I was constantly pushed to do more. Now, I am extremely tired. I am working to get more rest and work at a slower pace.

This gives me so much to think about, so much to unpack, I will have to revisit it again.

Alecia, thank you for this video. Youve captured my current feelings in this video. I’ve been feeling weary especially professionally. More projects added to my workload, more performing, no addition being added to the team and I am getting tired. It’s crazy being over worked is praised. So today I took the day off and rest and I was beat! Mentally feeling better but these companies will work you to death and not hire anyone else because why pay another salary when they can exploit labor.
  • I appreciate your message because after military disabilities I can only work part time and not full time and I feel judged by others because of it.

Blessings ❤Miss Alecia Renet You are such a blessing and voice for women like me. My maternal grandmother literally sat down by a tree in her front yard and died at a young age, she was simply tired and overworked. This was the 50 's or 60's. I'm transitioning thru a period of resting rn, your videos are intellectually truthful. Continued Blessings Natural Sis n Healer🤍🤍🤍🤍💫💫💫💫💫
