A pretty quick upload if I do say so myself :) No Jimbulus here, and 1 small note I'd like to mention. If there's 1 thing I wish i did a little differently in this one, its that my tone sometimes comes off as negative towards Gill's power level. He IS lower tier, but SFV is a relatively well balanced game and even though Gill is on the weaker end, he's certainly capable of performing well! If you came to the comments to call me a downplayer think of this as my apology lmao Otherwise, hope you enjoy the video!

you know, i really appreciate how far fighting game design has gone a low tier in SFV is like "oh they can do some work, but they just can't force their gameplan as consistently as the high tiers" while a low tier in something like SF3 is 'he just don't feckin' work properly half the time"

Gill was always my favorite character to play in SFV until Oro dropped, despite him having BY FAR the lowest win rate amongst all the characters I played. Glad to see my boy getting some well-deserved love

This is literally the type of video I wish 100 characters had, sometimes I will look up old fighting game characters to see how they work and there is NOTHING! I was ready to binge this series but I saw the previous video was a year ago nooooo!!!!! I loved the video!

i got sfv champion edition during the christmas sale this year and the first character i played was Gill because i was like "Oh he's the villian of Third Strike actually playable" and i fell in love, one of the fastest fighting games for me to find my main.

Can’t forget about the absolutely goated voice acting from Liam O Brian, easily my favorite part about Gill

I only got into street fighter pretty recently via third strike on fightcade, and was curious what gill was like in the only other game he’s in. This is a really cool video! You explained both the character and SFV really well and I can really feel your passion for him. That parry is badass lmao

Great video, always love to hear people talk about their favorite characters (also always glad to see SFV getting some love). One of my favorite details about SFV is how Gill and Alex interact uniquely with the system mechanics to carry a little bit of SFIII with them.
  • Gill's absolutely gorgeous. Honestly one of my favorite character designs ever. He's been my favorite since his debut.

I loved watching/playing Gill players. Once they had a groove, I’d be in my head like, “OK how’re you gonna convert this?🤔”
  • Gill is a character of extremes, which is one of the things that got him stuck with the "low tier" tag. He had to give up a lot in exchange for his big-boy damage: poor confirms off of his 3 frame light (I think the best he can do cLP -> cLP -> Light Lariat, but unfortunately I don't have SF5 currently installed to double check that), his cMK's cancel window being too short to hit confirm (in what was essentially "hit confirming off of your cMK, the game"), no invincible reversal, and in the final season being a character who has to compete for the same living space as Luke. That being said, when he does get a hit despite all the aforementioned shortcomings his opponent does just explode, especially if he's got meter to apply retribution. His parry can also throw a wrench in a lot of characters' frame traps: many of which rely on a 2 frame gap which is large enough for you to parry through and very few of them have a mid/low alternative with the same frame data to force you to guess in a way that doesn't leave them open to you pushing buttons. He also shares his brother Urien's raw lariat into V-Trigger for free plus frames tech. But none of that is truly important. What's important is that you get to do massive, swaggy combos that feel awesome to do in a game that just didn't have that kind of thing until the last 2 seasons.

Glad to see my favorite character and main covered
  • Great job at the cold shouldah clash! It looked like a tough gig but was a ton of fun to watch!

Great video! Gill was also one of my fav characters in SFV. I especially loved his ice vtrigger mixups. Sadly those became a lot less threatening when they introduced vshift, as that's just a get out of jail free card for those situations :(

I kept seeing your name around back during GGST tourneys since Jack-O' is my favourite FG character and I want to root and believe and in my bros (despite being more so a Xrd player). But other than playing just Guilty Gear I also got into SFV when 6 wasn't out yet and my main there was Gill. It's incredibly fascinating to me how our taste in character choices can be so similar. That we laser focus on who our mind finds the COOLEST, regardless of gender, regardless of tier lists, regardless of perceived difficulty barrier for learning whether it be floor or ceiling. Is it the most successful route to take? Probably not. But is it the most fulfilling when your hard work pays off? Absolutely!
