"Even though it had been part of Jerry's solo repertoire since the mid 1970s, Knockin' On Heaven's Door only entered the Dead's live setlist in 1987. Played as encore, it was always special to hear live, and it would stick around until July 1994." - David Lemieux

Will you come with me? Won't you come with me? There's no better place to take a long strange trip with the Grateful Dead than right here. We've got music from every single studio album and a bevy of live albums, to boot. There are celebrated live performances from the 70s and 80s and official videos with more skeletons than you can shake your bones at, an exclusive seaside series on what's to come from the band's rich catalog and details on meet-ups all across the promised land. If it's community you’re after, try your hand at our yearly DEAD COVERS PROJECT competition and connect with fellow Dead Heads around the world. Heck, keep your eyes peeled you might even catch a glimpse of Pigpen on keys, Jerry in a GROOVE, Bobby tellin' tales, Mickey talkin' space, Phil and friends, Bill on the beach, or anyone from our extended family.

It's all happenin' right here. Subscribe and you won't miss a thing.

  • My friends and I where there! Crosby Stills and Nash was the opener, what a great show!
  • This was one of my favorite shows to be at!! Thanks, for the memories ⚡️💀⚡️🌹

Jerry was the only one to do what he did and the only one who ever will. I draw so much inspiration from him and how not every show was perfect but that wasn’t even what it was about. It was this amazing sense of collectivism that happened when they played. Magic. Pure magic.
  • Thank you just what I needed to hear today … have a great one
  • 🌹 Rest easy, beautiful Jerry, sweet Brent, and fascinating Bill Graham 🙏 😢 🌹 I was too blessed to have been sidestage for years 🙏 Miss you all more than words can tell ❤️
  • "I am going to hell in a bucket, At least im going to enjoy the ride" Never Dead
  • Brent was knocking on heaven's door, he was dead less than a month later. I was at that show too!
  • My Uncle Mike was part of the local load in crew for this gig. My Uncle said Garcia peeled over 2K to him and said.."go find me some smack and one of those sandwiches with french fries on it".
  • 👏 Performance of a ‘classic’! It’s rare for me (now 70ish) to find a cover of an original song I’ve always 💟’d by its original artist that I think is just as good 👍 - if not even better! THIS is one of those imho! 🖐️
  • Jerry could sing the names out of a telephone book and put music to it and I'd listen😢

(Bob Weir+) Ratdog played a very sad rendition of: Knocking on Heaven's Door on Aug.25th, 1995@The Tower Theater, Upper Darby, Pa., just 2wks. or so after Jerry Garcia died. Not one dry eye in the house 😢🐕💀
