Mountain dulcimer, Romanian

This tune came out of a Romanian shepherd pipe tune that I wanted to learn play. Its a great melody but It was entirely too fast and this was the best I could do.

This is a Bill Berg Dulcimer, it has a scalloped fingerboard which makes it nice to play. The notes come easier and you can slide around more across the board. I have been playing for years and when I found this I was impressed. Sturdy instrument. Ready for the beating I will give it.

There is a capo on the 1st fret, and the tuning is DGD before the capo(on the open strings)...Or at least in those intervals...
If you are a dulcimer player this makes for good fun for a lot of eastern European music.
This Dulcimer has more than just the 6 1/2 fret added also. But they aren't required for these kinds of melodies.

  • Very cool!! I came across that instrument many years ago, but didn't think much of it. Seeing you play opens up my desire to give it a go someday! Well played 💪!!
