I saw this R.E.M. performance on TV live on BBC back in 2003 when I was living in London, I was so astonished by Michael Stipe performance, as a music videos fan I came across exactly this song bit of the concert. I unpretentiously posted this in 2011. I had no idea how this song touches people in so many different ways. Now it's reaching nearly 40 million views. The comments are just so overwhelming.

I think this song saved my life, when my husband died I completely gave up.. it's been almost 16 years since cancer took his life. Then my beautiful baby granddaughter died, and then my brother, and my mom died in December 23, now my big brother is dying again from cancer 😢 I come here and play this song over and over again, because it reminds me to just hang on. God Bless everyone out there, somehow we will be okay

I am 68, and it's been 4 months since my wife passed from cancer, and it has left me lost. I can't seem to get my bearing. At my age, I don't have much of anything to offer, so when someone says, hold on, don't give up, why would that apply to me? I eat every other day, I'm back to working 5days a week, I have no life, and deth for me is one step away! So for me, this song acknowledges that loss is real, and some are crushed by the weight of its pain. I love the song!
  • Michael Stripe gave this song “Everything he’s got to give “. He sung it with emotion and beauty!!💜

I've never understood people who say that this song is depressing. To me, this is a song that recognises you are sad, upset or anxious, puts a comforting arm around you, empathises with you and takes you to a less distressing place.
  • I am 71 and its12:30 am and I am alone listening to this great song. God Bless all.

I have watched this dozens of times. Today. it's my turn. My Dad, Michael William Thomas Mitchell, died this week aged 87. He was a working class dad, and a great dad. Family was all he had, all he wanted, and all he cared about. RIP Dad.
