Dear Synthstrom Deluge open source community devs

Published 2023-11-05
I have nothing but the utmost respect for the developer. I know this might be a stretch. If you know someone that is a dev in the community and could see value in this for others, please share. I don't ask for much on this channel and that would be super cool of you!

Thank you

IMO you will get more traffic and success from these feature requests if you document them in text. Developers aren't going to watch 6 minutes of talking to understand what is being asked of them. Hope you have some luck tho!

I really enjoy listening to your thoughts on the Deluge. I got one back in February, and it just clicked with me. But it's nice to follow someone elses new journey. Just wanted to say that with the community firmware an autofil feature has already been implemented. I dont think its as fully developed as youd like it to be. But things are already in the works it seems.

I want something like the "performance mode" in the shape of an FX sequencer so bad. On computers, it's DB Glitch or Sugarbytes Effectric VSTs. A dozen different FX that are applied via a sequencer grid, one or multple at a time. I'm fine if CPU requires one at a time - it would just make workflow so much faster. Alas, some of the FX are missing or not tuned well to this purpose (like stutter or a tape-stop). I know Ron has made the same request. Fingers crossed.

I could get behind both. two deluges here, & a mk1 play which lives in its box. I preferred the tracker, but since getting over the hump with the deluge's learning curve (largely down to the OLED speaking english instead of red crayon), there's no going back. I think it's all do-able, but the way it would be implemented is harder to imagine, if you wanted a selection of effects & a selection of which tracks they get applied to, per the play. the obvious way would be to copy all of the gold button functions onto columns of the grid, & use the audition buttons to select the tracks to be affected. & maybe shift-affect all could get you into this mode. then, by that logic, shift-vol/pan or shift-cutoff/resonance... they could all take you into a bargraph display of vol/pan (two columns for each track, coloured to match the corresponding audition pads), giving you a quick mixer among other things. just spitballing here. I like the idea of a library of grooves or patterns that could be loaded into an empty track & messed with. I've found the 'probability' on the deluge to be tedious to set up so that it does what I want, which is a sort of humanised quality to whether a note is played or not. what I liked in the play was being able to quickly arrive at a groove based on chance, & apply it to other aspects of the sound too. so this putative library of patterns- it ought to be possible to copy it to automation layers, or load alternative ones into the automation. that's a tiny chunk of xml, but would need a file identifier within the operating system as well as a way for the user to identify & cataloge them on the card & elsewhere, e.g. community asset sharing. maybe there's already a standard emerging for grooves that has things like tempo & velocity encoded. anyway, it's pattern data that would have to be managed separately from songs & then eventually baked into them as the project evolves. liking amadeus a lot so far, but it will grow from here.

The effects somehow laid out for performance would be nice indeed. I was thinking about mapping somtehing like the Plays implementation out to external midi pads. Do you guys think it’s possible to map a midi command for eg. to hold master filter cutoff on 40% while the midi controller button is pressed?

One of the first requests I sent to Polyend after picking up the Play earlier this year was make the performance mode programmable. I dont perform live so its fun to have but mostly useless otherwise... for me that is... If could be programmable to a step basis I feel that would take the Play to another level...
  • @BayMud
You should check out the latest nightly firmware, as there is a performance mode on the Deluge now, which is a lot of fun and only getting better. Should be part of the next stable community release
  • I can only afford a new synth when Sweetwater has it on 48 months 0% interest, so I have a Play. It's my main HAMA box. Deluge sounds great, and Midlife Synthesist thinks it's future-proof, so maybe it'll still be around when I can get one.

I had both devices and the play has really some cool features and functions. But as you mentioned it has alot of limitations. Sold the play and got and hands on the Deluge. So many possibilities but yes some limitations. The old display sucks. If the add some of the features from the play that would be great. Do know if its possible to launch a track/clip from "keyboard" view on the Deluge?
  • @SvenFx-22
you should get the screen updated on your deluge
  • @alexwest909
since making this video but a month ago you've been hit with a fundamental difference between polyend and synthstrom: play plus came out and so did deluge open source firmware 1.0

Hm, my comments are getting deleted. I am trying to message you. I'll do it via discord
