In my time on the internet, I've always found myself amused by the "Unlikely Internet Hero" archetype. I remember when I was younger it seemed like every week some average joe was made into a viral celebrity after a humorous news interview featuring them became a meme on YouTube or an internet forum. Today I'll be taking a look back at some of these bizarre viral stories, and the legendary unlikely heroes behind them.

  • The video of Santa crying over the child is too genuine to be fake. If he falsified the story, Eric deserves to work in Hollywood, because he's the best actor I've ever seen.

the idea of someone feeling entitled to the identity of a dead child and their grieving family in order to potentially profit off of a news article is beyond disgusting
  • @purpleYamask
I think the important bit of Eric's story is how brief he keeps it. "And thats when he passed." That's a memory he doesn't want to dramatize, there's no extra words or detail about doctors rushing in or wailing parents. It is more than understandable that, given his blowup, he doesn't want to give any leads to keep people off these greiving parents. Its not lack of proof on his end, but discretion for the peace of the family.

The saddest part of the Ariel Castro case is that the child that was raised in the house was NEVER outside for the beginning of their life. Amanda berry was litterally making “crosswalks” in the house to teach her daughter about the outside world and how to survive for when they have freedom. I wish nothing but healing and love to those women

How dare a man refuse to disclose a dead child's medical information to the public
  • @moogleboy
The fact that Eric refused to buckle under any circumstances, even when the media and "journalists" keep trying to break him down is a true testament to his character. What an absolute legend. edit: grammar
  • @ierofei
I know Eric personally. The smear campaign against him is a prime example of the state of modern journalism.
  • @rosethorne82
I think those reporters were literally trying to pressure him into giving them details so they could interview the grieving family. Normal people will be disgusted with news people, because they pull this all the time

They left out the most heartwarming part of the Papa Johns delivery guy rescuing children from the fire. While laying on the ground fighting for air he kept asking if the baby is okay, through sobs. He kept saying "Please just tell me the baby is okay". Not one ounce of concern for his own injuries. He deserves all the adoration he has received.

It's been 10 years and that "I'm Amanda Berry, I've been kidnapped..and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm here, I'm free now" will NEVER not bring tears to my eyes

That Santa story is one of the VERY few times an internet story made me shed a tear. Nothing but respect to that man for making that kid's final moments worthwhile.
  • @fishebola
The sad thing is that if Santa did disclose the name or hospital or family, then the media woul 100% harass them constantly for years smh
  • @MazusChannel
Eric wasn't lying at all. He was literally sobbing, his eyes literally turned pink. he just wanted to keep the family's privacy.
  • @bloodyneptune
Is proving/disproving the guys story really worth hunting down the parents of a dead child to question them about whether a mall santa was there during the absolute worst moment of their lives?
  • @walltomatoesval
You wanna know whats crazy to me about this story. Amanda said she had been missing for 10 YEARS and still the 911 operator was like "Ok we'll send a car once there is a opening." like WHAT.
  • @chaoticoldbore
This video proves that a "hero" can come from any walk of life. Young, old, rich or poor, they were all represented here.
  • @tiezoc757
I 100% believe the Santa story. My fiancé works in the medical field and they take HIPPA super seriously. Plus I'm a volunteer cosplayer where we've done several events for foster kids. There's lots we can't share with the public. Our group has tried to do stuff with our local hospital multiple times. They are just so strict that we've only been able to do charity events they're involved in, but still no hospital visits- even pre-covivi.
  • I’m a registered nurse myself, and maybe up here in Canada it’s different, but we wouldn’t be allowed to confirm or deny whether Santa was present for a pediatric death or not. So claiming they “called all the hospitals in the area and they all said it never happened” feels a little fishy to me. If that’s who journalists are these days, I wouldn’t want the name of my late child in their mouths either 😐

The reunion between Charles and Amanda nearly makes me cry 😭 what a wonderfully humble man.
