Hey, how ya doin’, I hope you’re doing well. You know I’ve never really talked about Hulk on here, made a Hulk Video Essay, talked about The Incredible Hulk, the Hulk Behind the scenes. I don’t have the same connection to the character as so many do, but 21 years since I first saw Ang Lee’s Hulk, first watched Eric Bana Hulk, I am ready to speak about just how misunderstood, and tragic Ang Lee film, Hulk (2003) really is. It truly is A Misunderstood Tragedy, hence the title of this HiTop Films Ang Lee Hulk Video Essay, Ang Lee’s Hulk - A Misunderstood Tragedy. But seriously, I really do hope you all enjoy a video on what probably is The Best Hulk and one of the most under appreciated superhero movies. This is the first of hopefully many HITop Films Hulk Videos.

You wouldn't like me when i'm Ang Lee.
  • @SpacemanSR
This movie really stuck with me as a kid, and as a lifelong Hulk fan, nothing has captured the psychotic energy quite like this movie.
  • @bensneb360
Ang Lee tried to do for the Hulk what Christopher Nolan ended up doing for Batman, he wanted to make a grounded character study about a tortured and complex character… such an underrated flick, one of my favorites, I hope to see another Hulk movie like this someday
  • @TheRagheb95
As a troubled child, and a troubled adult, this made me cry. Thank you
  • Words cannot express how happy I am that this film is getting the respect it deserves. The best live action hulk hands down, nothing will ever top ang Lee's hulk, not only is this the most accurate hulk in terms of abilities but it also treats hulk as a character and not just some spectacle.
  • @ThePonderer
I adore this film. When someone pointed out that Hulk in this film works as a metaphor for bipolar disorder, it blew my mind. I’ve largely been…fine, with Hulk in the MCU, but it’s crazy that Mark Ruffalo’s never been given this level of dramatic material to dig into after 12 years in the role.
  • I absolutely love this movie not only is it the most comic accurate Hulk film but Danny Elfman score is incredible. The whole theme of fathers and sons really hit close to home and that scene in the Lake where Bruce remembers his Dad saying "Sweet Dreams" always brings the water works.
  • I always hated that they never mentioned the multiple personality disorder in the MCU

There's not a lot of video essays about this Hulk movie but when a new one comes out, it always slaps
  • @realsanmer
I will always respect infinitely more a film made to appeal to just one person, than a movie made to appeal to everyone.
  • Ang Lee’s Hulk > MCU Hulk. I love this film and it the definite Hulk experience. It’s straight out of Peter David’s run on the character.
  • @DrawingTall
I saw this movie as a 22 year old when it came out. Here I am 43, a father who’s child lost her mother, and a person who has had 21 years worth of struggle and pain as much as hope and joy. I have followed your work on here for a few years now, and this video has convinced me that the 21 year old who wanted to see “Hulk Smash” may not have thought this was what he wanted, but maybe 43 year old me will see some struggle with grief and trauma through this that’ll make it now perhaps the Hulk movie I didn’t know I needed until I was old enough to fully understand it’s ambitions.
  • @ThanxNo
Hulk soaring through the air looking like he’s finally experiencing some sort of peace breaks me every time
  • This film is the reason I became a Hulk fan. I love it till this day and it has the best theme song to describe the character and the film.
  • @Neutral_Tired
I just started reading Immortal Hulk today. That's a fun coincidence. Considering I've basically only known The Hulk since it was canonised that he has DID, the character is heavily rooted in themes of childhood trauma and mental illness to me. And that made this film really work to me pretty much from the first time I saw it.
  • @JackIsMe1993
Ah yes the film that gave us the Giant foam hulk smash arms!! Truly the greatest product from any superhero film ever!!
  • @Julio-uz7iy
One of the most underrated hulk films imo. The score is haunting but sad, action scenes still hold up to this day, And the tragic story of Bruce banner as well as the hulk is unmatched. Really hope we see Eric Bana’s hulk in secret wars!
  • @ritasaha6587
...I've had a great childhood...I wasn't abused. That's why I never understood this movie. You made me understand. Thank you Hi-Top...thank you. Sincerely. For a moment I was able to feel uncomfortable, and instead of shunning it, I embraced it. Thank you.
