This natural resource could SAVE my home build THOUSANDS

This week I'm starting the process of putting a roof over my head, I make a much-needed sign for my front gate and make varnish out of Xanthorrhoea resin which is waterproof and could save me thousands of dollars on my home build by not having to purchase store bought varnish!

I have started my solo off-grid shipping container home build, and I could not be more excited!

In the last month, I finished building my own house foundations for under $6k when I was quoted $60k for contractors to do it, I installed a concrete shed slab myself for under $4k, I got the SHIPPING CONTAINERS delivered and placed on the footings I built, I got the jetty posts in my dam and felled some dead tree's all before winter hit!

I have recently moved across the country due to the housing crisis and bought an off-grid property with the dream to build my own container house.

I became an owner builder and after 8 months of design and planning I was approved to build my own home in Western Australia.

I’ll be using the Creality Falcon2 Pro for a lot more projects around the homestead including making signs for my secret garden and roads around the property, but I would also love to think of other ways to make use of the laser cutting feature!

My favourite features include the fully enclosed lid so there is no laser leakage, and I really loved the built in camera for alignment and also so you can watch your designs being created!

  • Can we get trail cams for Jas? I’d be worried about a lady out there by herself. Come on sponsors!
  • You need cameras! In the meantime put a sign on the gate that says “SMILE! 😊 you’re on camera.” As a deterrent.
  • Jas, for strenth you should have your Jetty joists short side up, other wise when you walk on it, it will be springy.

Hey Jas, if the jetty build turns to shit, you could make it out of barrels with a frame over top of them, so it rises and sinks with the water level. Bonus, you build it on dry land! Loads of good build videos on YT! Love your work!

There are rust treatments that cause a chemical reaction to rust. Just paint it onto rust, then paint over it. No sanding or grinding. ❤️ your show

Place signs on gate security cams' smile your on camera ' 24/7 bunnings, Need install trail camo camera get rego put few solar power cams up & lock your containers
  • Have you considered making your jetty more like a floating platform on those big plastic barrels, I've made one before at a previous property and worked a charm for when the water level changes its not high and dry! love watching, keep at it!
  • @jofiedler
Love your attitude. If i was working on that jetty, I would have given up. You rock!
  • @coupmstr
Glad the prognosis on your doggo is better than expected. Swap your ladders around, makes life much easier. you want 1 to 2 rungs over your roof. Pretty sure if you swap them you'll get that and it'll be much easier for you to put stuff up there. Keep up the good work great to see it coming together.

To help keep the jetty stable you should use some bracing (timber or galvanised strapping) diagonally between the posts going front to back and left to right. By doing this it will make the jetty much stronger and less prone to moving if the footings are unstable too.

It's all looking so good! Those grass trees are so intriguing to me, such a good resource for you! You're amazing Jas!!

A little suggestion for the resin varnish - put your jar in a bowl of hot water so that it gets nice and hot when mixing the resin powder with the ethanol. That way, you can get way more powder to dissolve and create a thicker varnish which will allow you to get a waterproof coating in just a couple of coats. It’s very similar to something called Shellac which has been used to preserve and beautify wood for a very long time. Love the colour!

Hey Jas Love watching your videos you put a smile on my face every time I watch. Nice to see that you reply to almost every comment you are a true inspiration to so many people
  • @bmart73
They are after your Jarrah trees or use it to access beyond your property, it must be a known aceess point before you moved in recently. it will change with gates and signs surely. Engraver, try experimenting with slower burn time or more intensity. Try using your resin from the blackfellas as a marker
  • @82xmas-j7w
those trees are amazing, thanks for sharing them. the color of the resin is beautiful and such a cool natural product to use. i didn’t know they exist 🙈
  • Kookaburra's having a good laugh 😆Awesome to watch..excellent work Jaz.
  • @JohnChryn-sn3cj
Another great video and how you overcome obstacles love it you sure do think out of the box
  • @YodaJediMaster
Very nicely done Jasmine, I hope you get some fine weather so you can get some more done. Look forward to seeing what you do next and I hope the sign works.
  • thanks for a longer episode, I can't wait for you to get started on the house, I also hope that the sign keeps people away from your plot
  • Great work once again. What you do that jetty was a best laugh for a long time on the other hand proud of your determination. You got it done.
