It had to happen sooner or later… after 150,000 miles (71,000 of which I have done in five years while visiting 11 different countries!), the M96 flat six engine on my Porsche 911 has needed to come out for some much needed maintenance. Here's what happened! A HUGE thanks to the guys at Wrightune for taking care of the car, for all Porsche servicing, maintenance and mechanical restoration work give Chris a call or visit www.wrightune.co.uk/

  • The cost is the cost, it's an old 911 with 150k miles on it. The memories it's given all its owners in over twenty years, just think of it were a lesser manufactured brand, it would be made into a dishwasher by now and little Irish is still perfectly usable as a modern classic 911. Nice to see the dedication Lee.
  • Being from the States, hearing the mechanic say that driving 2 hours round-trip for the clutch was them “driving halfway around the world.” made me laugh. 😂 Great content keep it up!

225.000km on my 1997 996; four engines. First original engine blown up due to hard track use by earlier owner, second AT replacement short block had a disastrous rebuild with misaligned heads due to a uneven block, a mechanic that shredded some threads in one of the heads and figured it was ok to use helical insert threads and two component glue etc etc. Third engine was then a rebuild of the second disaster that lasted maybe a month until that ended up in a total intermix disaster. 12 months later the car got a factory new 2021 stamped long block (block, heads all internals) all auxiliary components replaced etc. Purrs like a cat now. While I did have that engine swap I bought a factory rebuild and zeroed G96 manual gearbox, installed the Numeric shifter and cables. Like you said the 996.1 base Carrera is absolutely the most Porsche 911 driving and ownership pleasure for any money. Hope to see you on the roads of Norway this spring/summer.

Good video. It’s a shame some of those rusty bolts you didn’t replace 😢
  • @MW-uy3np
What a great car! 70k miles and counting under your ownership. Very impressive. We enthusiasts are lucky to have shops like this around. Good work.
  • @kriskalpa
should reveal the cost, its part of the interest.
  • Brilliant video Lee, the guys there are so on point some sound advise given to you and us viewers of this cracking channel. Keep those miles and memories coming. 👍
  • @brunskibeats
Would love to know what the labour cost was Lee please
  • "That's pretty horrible"............. understatement of the century! That's a near total junker.

3.9L Hartech in mine now. I fitted new back box hangars this winter, chuffing expensive. DIY rebuild of the 964 engine this year too. (Might ask Wrightune to help with the machining/inspection). £££. The 'while it's out' is a mixed bag of satisfaction and cost. Thanks for posting.
  • @olukunle
My 997 had that squeaking problem upon start up, sound like a distressed pig. I bought a reconditioned one off eBay for about 90 quid and changed it in front of my house its been fine since then that was like 6 years ago

Good job, always good to do preventative maintenance whilst it's out. Best way to go for peace of mind to carry out many more miles of happy motoring.
  • @TobyD
Thanks for sharing Lee. Open & transparent as always. This car has given you great service over the years. As previous owner of early 996 can I attest to their all round abilities - so on balance it’s done very well. 👍
  • Ive really enjoyed this episode...keep these videos coming! Great work
  • @mattdedasc
Great video. Always good to see a car being looked after and driven
  • @DanDan-hj2pp
Well done mate I have done the same thing on my 997 the fuel rails look worse then they will be the metal on them is thick one thing I would add on 997.1 is the oil level sender as well and the spark plugs are piss easy with it on the floor
  • @dwarfyh32
Good effort on the mileage and good to see it being used
  • Great video again Lee, sometimes its a problem knowing when to stop with the preventative maintenance.
  • @Askgeez
Good for another 70k ! No more pushing round the streets of Mulhouse 🤣. Nice informative video 👍🏻👍🏻
