finding a glitch in alpha is like finding a needle in a needle stack
  • @GDcelta
3:15 This is most likely caused because turning leaves to fast graphics would just make the leaves a solid block, removing the transparent background.

The arm movements in the inventory menu were likely a hold over from the RD versions of the game where you could find and/or spawn the human mob. Those mobs would flail their arms about when they moved. Notch likely copied parts of the human mob code and used it for the player. If you look at Survival Test Multiplayer Servers (those were possible to make by messing with the code even though they weren't officially supported yet) the models of the players are based on the human mobs and have the same animations. My best guess is that since third person view wasn't added yet, Notch didn't think you would ever see your model moving and didn't bother to change the animations.

I’d love it if they brought back monoliths as a small biome, they’re just so cool looking and imposing on the landscape. Plus there are some mountains IRL that kind of look similar
  • Being able to craft or sort your inventory while on the move would be a fantastic quality of life/productivity feature. Speed runners would probably bust having that added to the game.

01:29 This bug is explained because the tool breaks before the block. The game then believes you broke the stone with your bare hands since the tool is gone. Since you don't drop a stone block by mining it with your hands, this is why the bug happens. Though it has been fixed somewhere in Beta because I never played Alpha and came across this bug.

12:11 that bug still worked on bedrock until like 6 months ago. Used it to break a bunch of adventure maps for speedrunning

Finally someone mentioning the time change exploit. I used it to cook my iron and gold instant back in the day.
  • @Seed
I wish I was still powerful enough to break bedrock..

The reason the first person hand moves weirdly when your inventory is open is because there is Only One Of Each Model in minecraft every player, your first person arm, and the inventory "doll" are all technically the same model object, just being reposed and rerendered every time. whats happening is the "doll" is being posed and rendered, and then next frame that pose carries over to the first person arm. The first person arm model at these points in the game's life weren't being given a default pose, since they got all their animations from being "parented" to the same thing held blocks and items were, so "why would i need to give it a default pose?" this also extends to being in 3rd person. if youre in 3rd person and start walking, then enter first person again your hand will be in whatever pose it was in 3rd person if im not mistaken, this is also the source of (or at least in the same family as) the ever annoying bug with boats and minecarts where your hand would change to look like it was halfway through punching. presumably, taking part of the "sitting in vehicle" pose on accident.

I think part of the reason I love alpha so much is due to how janky it is. Something about breaking the game as much as possible to make it easier or to just save time will always be fun to me.
  • Can we appreciate that sand floating above snow is considered a glitch, but everyone just accepts that torches still do that.
  • @SemiHypercube
I liked hearing his recreation of the "Ooh" hurt sound

I really like these obscure bugs videos, especially ones that are super old. I love learning about weird random facts about Minecraft, since I’ve already learned so much, it’s hard to find new facts.

5:33 I'd recognize that skylight and greenhouse anywhere. X's Adventures In Minecraft was one of my first introductions to the game and holds a special place in its history.
  • @MaxLai_0104
3:18 this is likely due to the fact that the game would technically count the leaves block as a solid block due to it not being transparent in the fast setting.

Another great video to listen to while doing stuff in the background (your voice is nice and calm, and easy to listen to while doing stuff)

I knew almost all these bugs, used many of them. I remember duping bricks because back then finding clay was very difficult and i really wanted to build a brick house. As for the minecart boosters, the more minecarts were stacked in the booster the farther you could go on one boost.
