Upholstered furniture, especially headboard are dust magnets

I also eliminated shelves of knick-knacks years ago because I HATED dusting them.

Having pet hair is so worth it for the love and companionship they provide!
  • Put newspaper or baking parchment on top of your kitchen cabinets and just replace them. It saves a lot of time. In Europe most people have front loading machines. Just leave the door open and don't use unnecessary stuff like scent boosters and fabric softener. It is bad for your clothes, it puts a film on them. As said just use washing powder and wash once a month on the highest temperature. I usually do this with old rags I use to clean up when something is spilled.
  • We switched to a powder detergent after having the mildewed door seal on our front load washer replaced. It never mildewed again. It was a water-saving model and the liquid detergent seemed to cause a build-up that attracted mold, even with leaving the door open. Otherwise it was an excellent washer that lasted 23 years before the motor began wearing out.

A few of my favorite YouTubers did this same video idea

Washable rugs are a must for high traffic areas for sure. Also a no no if you don't plan on cleaning all the time are solid dark colored rugs. I have a black one I got on sale and regret being cheap LOL. Just as bad as a white one. One speck of dust, one crumb, and it's game over! Good list! I love your dog šŸ„°

Cleaning the shower is no fun. Detachable shower heads are mandatory, both for showering as well as for cleaning! I always leave my top-loading washing machine open when not in use. Never any problems with mold. Good tips.

Great video! I definitely agree with the front loading washers.. we have to always remind tenants to keep the door open so it doesn't get moldy/musty. That little gadget to keep it open sounds like a great idea! Regarding the grout in the shower, you could try getting the grout sealed. I have a tiled shower and I sealed the grout myself after it was installed... So no grime builds up in it... it looks as good as when I first had it tiled and haven't had to ever brush it. They have spray on ones and also brush on ones :)

Aww...Roxy is so sweet! I have 3 cats that shed non stop! Especially in the spring and fall! I could do without my jetted tub too! Thanks for the tips! Have a great day!
  • Cream rugs & carpeting looks sooo luxurious while shopping - I can completely understand how easy it would be to get sucked in. I always leave my top loader lid open but either way, I will do everything in my power to keep that machine going as long as possible! Maybe that car cleaning putty/slime stuff would help for the dining room table? I keep meaning to get one of those handheld shower heads but I guess I just get by using a spray cleaner and wiping with an old rag or towel.
  • And definitely leave detergent drawer also open on your front loader between washes.

Another great one Ali. Ugh, I hate cleaning the shower the most, itā€™s just a pain. Cant wait for next weekā¤

Glass works well on a table. I got some as the table is old and I was twitchy when visitors would come over and not use a coaster. The glass I just clean off with a vinegar spray, and I'l be cleaning the table anyway. Sure its never perfect, but works well for me. Squeege your shower each time you use it, reduces the number of times you've to scrub it.

PETS! and RUGS! we have 7 cats and a geriatric dog, Id pull up all the rugs but the poor pup is having trouble jumping up and off the sofa and just simply slipping around so I had to get more rugs and size them up so he would be more comfortable moving around, but man I am sick of vacuuming and cleaning of everything, but I wouldnt trade any of them, the last kitty came from a few doors down, the owners packed and left him and several other kittens, he was only about 4- 5months old when he showed up on our doorstep and refused to leave and made friends with ours ... the other kittens (now a couple years old) I see around and seem to have also found homes, they all seem plump and happy and I know they all belong to the same litter because they all look the same and are all various shades of orange.

When it comes to the top of kitchen cabinets, I use paper liner. Simply put paper on the top, it can be newspaper, pages from magazines, printed paper you are going to throw away etc, you don't even see these so it doesn't matter what type of paper you use. When it's time for cleaning you grab that paper and throw it in a trash, all grease and nasty dust is on the paper, not the cabinets and you only need to wipe gently with some drops of detergent, than put new paper and voila, no need to scrub that disgusting layer of dust and grease. I also use this method in other rooms on high bookcases or furniture, makes it so easy to clean.

I agree with everything you said! I really hate my stainless steel appliances! Fingerprints!šŸ˜‚ Great video!

I finally cleaned the top of our kitchen cabinets when I was spring cleaning last year, which was 13 years after we moved in! I literally threw in the towel when trying to clean the oven though. Ours has an exposed element and it was so annoying to clean under it so I'd never buy one like that again.
