Huge thank you to Lee for helping with the research for this video šŸ’š
  • Played all the Souls games but this area was the first to truly creep me out. Wish his dungeon was longer thought.
  • I think both starscourge radahn and midra are the two best bosses at making you understand why you are fighting them. The whole radahn festival (jerren explaining why the festival exists with that sick radahn cutscene of him feasting on soldiers) and especially the whole midraā€™s manse and abyssal woods. The frenzy ambience, the screams of midra, the painting showing midra and the woman which, if you pay the slightest of attentions, you realise that her name is nanaya due to the torch you find on her body and midra himself stating her name as he apologises for what he is about to do, release the frenzied flame. It is truly amazing how much lore they crammed into like 6 rooms and a bossfight and it is definitely one of the best easily understandable narratives of all of fromsoftwareā€™s bosses. Bravo Michael Zaki šŸ‘šŸ‘
  • The lead up to Midra was a masterclass in how to build up a boss. The horror aspect of the Abyssal Woods, the screams and mutterings you here as you walk around Midra's Manse. S Tier stuff

That painting of Midraā€™s manse and the woods as a whole being a paradise of flowers and life is very striking to me. Now there is frenzied flame imbued into the very rock. How bad must it be for the frenzied flame to enter the stone itself?? Truly shocking stuff. Torrent knows more than we do, even with the Surging Frenzied Flame lore item

I like how he pierces his hand with a barb to ensure he doesnā€™t lose his grip when pulling out the branch

Great choice with the Little Nightmares 2 soundtrack at the beginning!
  • @theroguerider
Why I found a bit disappointing was that when I entered the manse, I had the frenzied flame in my eyes. I think it couldā€™ve been an amazing moment that he ends up attacking me because he recognizes it within me and how I am not suffering like him. Sadly, it made no difference.

i truly believe the lord of frenzy is not a being like Shabriri i feel like its a state of pure ECTASY Midra's joyous relief and Our own flamboyant movements in the chaos ending. Becoming the lord of frenzy is the final stage oh nihilism from "nothing matters" to "NOTHING MATTERS!!! :D"
  • @aaronlefay
I love the little nightmare vibes. Could you imagine being 6 running around that house and trying to avoid the madness.

Here is my take: Long ago before Marika destroyed the Hornsent, Nanaya arrived mysteriously at Midra's Manse carrying nothing but this torch. The torch, of course, being the spine of her failed Lord from a distant land. The dying flame atop it may have infected the inhabitants of the Manse and likely Midra himself. Mira succumbed to Nanaya's flame and madness soon crept in. It got to a point where the wider Hornsent civilization was alerted and Jori was sent. The Manse was assailed and many were executed. Midra was impaled but he could not be killed, as the power of the flame protected him. Nanaya's last words to him were "Endure", hoping that the pain would make him strong enough to become lord. In the end, Midra very well might have been the man to end the world, but us players make sure that does not happen. And so it is that he was too weak to become a true Lord of Frenzied Flame. To me, this confirms that the DLC is meant to be played before you end the game. I'm sure many of you were like "Wait a minute? Aren't I the Lord of Frenzied Flame!?!?!" Of course this makes no sense chronologically as you destroy the world in the Frenzy ending. All I'm saying is that for all of your next Frenzy characters, you have to fight Midra before you kill Radagon, just saying!
  • @Moss_and_Such
I didnā€™t even experience the grape head bois. šŸ˜… I saw those spooky notes and popped assassins gambit and hugged the wall until I was at the mansion
  • Nanaya's torch isn't necessarily Midra's spine, she could have tried this with someone else before. Especially since Midra still has a functioning spine during his boss fight. Another thing, if you look at her corpse's face, you can see her eye sockets might be empty. There are also hidden Finger corpses in the Manse. All this gives credence to the idea that she was similar to Hyetta or Shabriri.

Since I saw the first trailer with the shot of the painting, Midraā€™s Manse and Midra removing the sword from his head, I couldnā€™t wait to visit this area. As soon as I found the Abyssal Woods I realized this is where this would all take place and it all came together perfectly by the end. Some of the best visual storytelling that FS have ever authored.

The depths of your FOOLISHNESS šŸ—£šŸ”„
  • @blackout12344
idk why but midra gives me some "king in yellow" vibes, but i really liked his dungeon, and the abyssal Woods too
  • @Nathan_Coley
This Tarnished of no renown sure seems to be one powerful entity, able to do things multiple demigods could not.
  • @Beeyo176
I've heard "The depths...of your foolishness!" way too many times.
  • @sk8legendz
I was expecting a giant monster in the woods I havent been scared like that in a video game since a kid playing resident evil. Great design
