That awkward moment when the literal bully character is the most likeable person in this family.

If my kids threw a party and cleaned up everything AND replaced a whole door I’d just be impressed with how responsible they were.
  • Rodrick gives "cut my family out of my life after high school" vibes, and I wouldn't blame him. A dad who doesn't love him, a mother who so obviously prefers his younger brother, and two siblings that are their own separate nightmare...yeah, it'd probably be for the best if he just ditched them.
  • Rodrick: throws a party Susan: grounded manny: turns out the power and leaves everyone with no food while in a blizzard because no one taught him how to tie his shoes Susan: oh
  • @Cap_Briggsy
Greg: sociopath Manny: psychopath Susan: karen Frank: shit father Rodrick: just knows how to beat the system
  • Funnily enough, Jeff Kinney wrote a short story about a guy who plays pranks on his younger brother and some of the pranks are the same ones Rodrick plays on Greg. At the end of the story the little brother stops falling for the pranks and the older brother is proud of him

I feel like the kids get progressively worse. Rodrik - decently normal Greg - an egomaniac Manny - demon child.
  • Greg: sociopath Susan: full scale Karen frank: dead beat dad Manny: psychopath rodrick: why is my family a disappointment

Ngl, in the movies Rodrick was the most teenage looking teenager I’ve ever seen
  • @acidicali7776
The "craziest" thing Rodrick has ever done was convince himself that "Löded Diper" was a good name for a band.
  • @douglas7376
Rodrick’s not dumb, he’s just misunderstood. He has dyslexia, which makes it hard for him to learn, and he never really hurts anyone in his pranks. He might not be the smartest in school, but he still has a big brain.
  • Also, in later books, which I know less people will have read, Rodrick grows out of tormenting Greg; he doesn't even prank him anymore. He's just trying to get on with his life now, and honestly has a very normal relationship with Greg. Rodrick was just a teenager in a dysfunctional family doing things teenagers do, and eventually grew out of it.

I feel like we miss a lot of the cool things Rodrick does for Greg too. Looking at the movies, which are far more neutral than the books, Rodrick constantly covers for Greg and takes the heat for stuff. And we even see that Greg constantly pranks him back too, in usually far more mean spirited ways.
  • i like the idea of Greg being an unreliable narrator. the way he describes Rodrick is just how a younger sibling would probably view their older sibling who is going through that awkward puberty phase where everything is shit and being a rebel is the most interesting thing.
  • Even if you hate Rodrick in the books, go look at the movies (not the long haul) and Devon Bostick will make you love him. That man played the character so frikkin well.

Rodrick is like the squidward of the wimpy universe. You hate him as a kid, but as you grow older you can only relate to them out of the whole series
  • Not to mention in the movies, when Greg tells his brother that Holly called him Fregley, mistaking Greg for some weird disgusting kid, Rodrick cheers him up, saying how she probably messed up or intentionally got it wrong because she’s into him.

"Now Frank is wondering what’s wrong with his son and is asking himself how much he’d sell on Craigslist." Gregslist, if you will.
  • @Purplefloof
Now we need a diary written out by Roderick and with his perspective of things.
  • It's honestly a miracle he turned out as well as he did with such terrible parents. I'm guessing his friends are a pretty good support group.
