More than 80 earthquakes hit Taiwan's eastern coast and shook buildings as far as the capital city of Taipei. The strongest quake recorded on the Richter scale was of magnitude 6.3. The epicentre of the earthquakes was Hualien, a rural eastern country region in the Taiwan strait. On April 3, 2024, an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 had struck Hualien, which claimed 14 lives, and has since triggered over 1,000 aftershocks.
