  • Sad but they did not listen to the ranger warnings about the potential storm. Their bucket list outweighed basic hiking and climbing sense. Sad though.
  • This is such a tragedy. She is not the first to die slipping off and she won't be the last. People have slipped even WITHOUT rain. This is also why it is recommended to take extra precaution by clipping in... Regardless though, when doing ANY hike at such elevation, there is ALWAYS a risk of falling! Hike at your own risk and be safe! Also, the weather can be so unpredictable so expect the unexpected. Always check the weather before doing a hike.
  • There’s no way in hell I’d climb up there 😬
  • @martinyuhas929
There’s a sign before you start that says “I would turn back if I were you.”
  • @Hof79905
It is such a ridiculous risk / reward comparison that is simply not worth it. Under no circumstance would I ever throw that much “caution to the wind”.
  • Change for what? Not being out there during a storm is about all you can do.
  • So sad for this loving father. You can see they had a great relationship. If there's a silver lining, she accomplished a major bucket list item with her favorite person. May she RIP and may Mr. Rohloff find comfort in her memories while he grieves her passing.

This is truly tragic. My thoughts are with the family. It's a reminder that these adventures always carry risks, no matter how prepared we are. Stay safe out there.
  • @MendandMake
Just stay away from the edges of cliffs. I don’t understand why you have to put yourself in a dangerous situation
  • @jag86648
That man is strong. I only wish I could be that strong when facing such a horrible tragedy.
  • Advocating for safer conditions?!?!?! He knew damn well what he was getting into with Half Dome and now all of a sudden he expects it to be an amusement park? Arizona father is just unable to face the burden of guilt/responsibility, that his daughters death is on him at the end of the day.
  • Safer conditions ? It's a Mountain ... ! Nobody made anybody climb up there ... like swimming in the Ocean and sharks ... You know the risk
  • I've done that Hike and it is quite easy to slip. That said, My friends and I Knew the Danger before We went.
  • Hiking while the hills are not fully Dry yet is not a good idea!
  • Studies has shown that it's common for people to try to find meanings in deaths, such as new laws etc to "save others".
  • I'm sorry for the loss of his daughter, RIP. But "dad demands change"? It's a wilderness park, it's an inherently dangerous place, especially for the uninitiated. There are plenty of warning signs and there is a law enforcement ranger stationed just below sub dome to check peoples permits and give a safely briefing who can answer any questions and provide recommendations or further warnings. You need grippy gloves and grippy trail shoes/boots and sound judgement as to when to turn back or carry forward. Most of the falls have been weather related. There is a large warning sign that everyone will pass to proceed up Sub Dome/Half Dome. There is a second warning sign at the bottom of the cables. Exercise good judgement before proceeding.
  • they knew the risk.. adventure always comes with danger or else people would do it to feel alive. Rip
