Dumb ToDs in Fighting Games

Who doesn't love a good Touch of Death combo in Fighting Games? There's nothing more satisfying than dealing 100% off of a single hit. But today, we're going a little bit WEIRDER. We'll be talking the most stupid, most cursed, and most simple one touch kill combos in the history of FGs. No infinites, no crazy hard execution, just ridiculous damage for seemingly no reason, in games like Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Marvel vs Capcom 2, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future. Enjoy!

HFTF isn’t a game of ‘can you pull off a TOD,’ it’s ‘which TOD do you want to use,’ and I love it.
  • Oh boy I can flex my brain here. Indeed, Dio's timestop glitch stops the health bars from resetting during the match. There are practical setups for it too, just hard to do, and I believe Jotaro can do it. The con of it is that there is an interesting interaction between time stop characters and it's that any timestop character (Dio, Jotaro, and Shadow Dio) can timestop during the opponents stopped time. It will happen immediately and only costs one bar to do so, unlike the three it takes normally. So if you try this tod on any of the mentioned characters, they can just timestop on wakeup and tod you instead, because both health bars reset from 1 to full at the start of rounds.

Dan taking a bunch a damage after doing his super taunt is pretty dumb and funny since it encourages you to let him finish meaning Dan won even though dying

Every time I think I understand why Twelve is so bad in Third Strike, I learn something new. Wow.

Don’t you hate it when you send a copy of yourself to attack your opponent but then both of you get crushed by a pink whale?

HFTF TOD combos just look and sound so satisfying if done with enough bravado.

That jojos one actually fits that stands ability perfectly. Lol

Miguel's taunt in Tekken is similar to R.Mika's where if you let him laugh for the full duration, he will just ohko you.

When you said "dumb TODs", I was half expecting things to go in the other direction - like Vanessa's infinite in KOF XI, which can technically ToD but takes nearly 50 seconds to do it because by the end the damage is scaling so ridiculously low that you're dealing 1 damage hits in a game with 1000hp lifebars

4:13 and here you will see the JM-Crotificus in its natural habitat trying to ignore the searing urge to say nice after saying the number 69

Roy's turnaround Up-B dealing massive knockback isn't actually a bug: the first hit deals very high set knockback to combo into the next hits, because having the knockback of the first hit be the same as the later hits (except the final hit) results in characters falling out of the attack. I believe it was AsumSaus who made a video explaining this, his channel is good for explaining Melee jank in general.

The reason time stop glitch works is because while the round starts, the health refills and since time is stopped, the enemy won't heal their health. That's why sometimes it actually doesn't kill them with one hit if they heal a bit of HP.

In Blazblue Calamity Trigger, Ragna has a super called Devoured By Darkness which can only be done during his Blood Kain install. If done raw, it will deal 5520 damage to the opponent, and heal 5520 health to Ragna because in BBCT his lifesteal is 1:1 with his damage dealt with drive moves. If combined with negative penalty (which makes you take 2x damage in BBCT), it will deal 11040 damage, and heal Ragna 11040 hp. This is enough to kill some characters, and heal Ragna to full hp.

My favorite ToD has to be with Chie in BBTag, She has a mechanic like juggernaut charge, but you spend meter for it up to 3 levels. If you get 3 levels of charge and then use her God Fist super, it kills any character in a single hit. Super fun IMO.

DBFZ has a even stupider TOD with Base Goku, his famous 3-touch TOD. Just gotta set it up beforehand: 1) He needs to do his "lend me your energy" move three times before attempting the TOD; 2) He needs to be the last standing character on the team so he has access to the Limit Break feature. 3) Sparking is not 100% necessary ever since they added the Limit Break feature on Season 3, but since he's the last standing character might as well use it. The combo goes like: Standing heavy > Spirit Bomb > Level 3.
  • I didn't even know it was possible to say "the world" without saying "ZA WARUDO" You learn something new every day
  • I saw some disinformation in the comments so here I go! For JoJo timestop glitch you can either pick Dio, Jotaro or Shadow Dio, they all can timestop as they are killing their opponent. If opponent wakes up fast enough for the second round to start and timestop didn't complete yet - you get a timestop glitch. Most of the times any hit in timestop will 1 shot kill, but there are some exceptions because of different hp bar fill up speeds. If you do manage to timestop glitch against a Jotaro - he will be able to stop time himself and start moving/blocking/attacking in it, HOWEVER! His hp bar will still drop to about 3% (meanwhile your hp will restore to 100%, since you can act in your own timestop - your hp will recover as intended), the only way to not lose most or all of your health during timestop glitch - is not getting hit by your opponent and wait until their timestop ends. Sure, you can tod Dio as Jotaro by timestoping on his timestop glitch, but you have to do it before he hits you, him not being airborne, him not having any meter left and you having full 10 super meters, so it is basically impossible to do. Also thanks for giving the game some much deserved love! Pog

The HP bar glitch in Jojo's reminds me of Megaman 7 where you would shoot Noise Crush where you fight Turbo Man and it hits him when his health bar is filling up but he'll die instantly instead
  • @aqgpandemic5406
A personal favorite of mine is how G’s idle animation in SFV has a hitbox if you let it last, and you can use that to combo into death
  • @slugbones
Holy crap that JoJo's glitch is the nastiest thing I've ever seen in a FG lmao
