I played this song for a few friends. None of them liked it. Clearly I need new friends

while going through radiation at the hospital for cancer treatment , they always ask what playlist i want to listen to. my go to is always either an elton john playlist or a queen playlist. but i remember on my last radiation appointment i chose elton and i was listening to this song as i finished. i had been feeling so distant because i couldn’t do much cause how sick i was, but this song brought me so much happiness. and in that moment, for some reason i knew that i’d get through it and be alright in the end. and here i am still alive to this day fighting cancer for the 7th time and i will never give up. don’t care if it takes a long long time , i’ll be okay :).

My son(Daniel) hated being named after the song. As he got older he discovered Elton was really not so bad. His favourite was rocket man, he suddenly died at the age of 36 . 18months ago. Haven't been able to play it until now.

This song is a metaphor. It isn't about literally being in outer space, it's about being so alone down here on Earth that one could not appreciate the difference.

Im a current drug addict and idk this song just makes me cry everytime. I hope I get myself back man. This song just gives me some hope.

I admire the contrast between Elton's "Rocket Man", and Bowie's "Space Oddity" where one longs to be with his family and the other falls in love with space so much that he leaves his wife, earth, and just gives in to be apart of space till the end of his days. Edit. I just got out of "Rocketman", and man was it incredible. It was indescribable, but in words absolutely beautiful. A big inspiration to me as a musician, and just as a person in general. A big recommendation to anyone interested.
