Rachel Reeves: Labour cutting winter fuel payments after inheriting projected overspend of £22bn

She told the House of Commons that the Conservative Party "covered up" the hole, and "ducked difficult decisions" knowing the money was not available.
Several of the previous government's planned initiatives have been scrapped, alongside cuts to winter fuel payments for pensioners. Labour's first budget will be held on 30 October.

MPs will got a pay rise of 5.5% in April, lifting their annual salary to £91,346, they should put their hands in their own pockets for the money not steal it from pensioners who have paid into the system all there lives!! Plus stop dishing out money to other countries!!

They could have set eligibility for winter fuel payment to maximum £15000 a year pension income, not just pension credit. Most State pensions are less than £15000 pa and MANY are taxed on it as well. Too many pensioners hanging on in there and not shuffling off this mortal coil quick enough? Hypothermia it is then. Choice is an illusion in this country.

A £20 billion hole was being reported long before Labour took power! If they need to address this then need to look at levelling appropriate taxes against the wealthy, corporations and reclaiming money squandered on contracts where said contractors failed to deliver under the Tories. Perhaps begin with reclaiming the money allocated to Mone?
