I think about how long and detailed your videos are. Then I'm reminded that your wife is standing there the whole time filming. What a trooper!

Brian, great video, super explanation of all steps, simple tools, skillful craftsman = great success. Will copy your work with tremendous pleasure :) Keep on going and show us some more adaptations. Thanx!

I've seen 3 of your videos. I like how indepth and long your videos are.

Hey Brian, I just picked one of these from a deceased estate for $120 AU, AND, it came with a brand new spare Eflite 30amp speedy, 3000 lipo, prop, 6 spare wheels and a spare as new Orange 6 channel RX, has the AS3X rx fitted and working. Bargain ... Looking forward to getting it in air next week. Good to see you enjoy yours. Might give the poor old Conscendo a break as I fly so much, will do the flap mod latter on. Cheers, Stew.

FINISH IT!!! Sorry. I saw the intro to the plane yesterday and my brain went to the one that has been sitting in the window of the local hobby shop for literally years, making me somehow I think it was an older video of yours that I missed. When you talked about installing flaps I was like "I need to see that, that might apply to some of the what I want to do," and started searching and I had the "he must have never gotten back to it," reaction. ;-) Imagine how happy I was to see this :-) I’ve been thinking about cutting into a wing I have here and installing some flaps/servos and have been debating flap hinge geometry (fouler/slotted flaps vs a tape hinge) and have been wanting to keep the plane as simple/light as possible and was especially interested when you said you were going to do this with one servo and fouler flaps. So: - I'm jealous of your DX18... I have a DX6i and I seem to always need another channel... - I can’t believe that you’re doing all that work with it just balanced upside down on the airplane, that would drive me crazy, for that matter it’s driving me nuts that it’s not moving on you - The hot knife thing with the shim is kind of interesting. I’m surprised it stays hot enough for long enough to do that. The nice thing with that approach is that you can heat the tip and use the non hot part to guide the cut straight. I usually have good luck freehanding cuts like that with a good sharp blade, but this time I cut my flaps by cutting a block with the correct angle in it and I screwed a razor blade to it to get a perfect angle on the cut. - How/with what equipment are you shooting these videos? I don’t know how many times I’ve thought “I bet people would like to see me do this,” and then either gave up as it’s too big a hassle to do or set something up on a tripod and ended up with a video that didn’t really show it well or worse, tried to hand hold it making both the video and my work crappy. - I’ve been trying to find that dynam PN in stock somewhere for a while… I see you’ve found them under another PN. I was actually ready to 3d print my own. - “looks like the short side is supposed to be on the flap,” and then you go on to do it the other way 😉 I think they work out better with the short side on the flap (well after drawing out my hinges in cad to print, I haven’t gotten my hands on those) - What kind of glue where you talking about using to hold the hinges in? I couldn’t make it out in the video. Hurry up and finish this 😉 I’m very curious what to end up with and you have me seriously considering going to the hobby shop and asking if they want to get rid of the one they have that has been sitting there for years. I was wondering why no one seemed to like them, especially with all the spare parts in stock at the shop.
  • The small hole on the short side is for the servo rod connection. Just a fyi for those that do not know.

Been flying my apprentice on floats for years now! It lasts long if you are responsible and mine is still in mint condition. Time for some upgrades as I am pretty comfortable with the plane.
  • @spikedart
I have re-taped both the center top and the bottom of that wing. The guy I bought it from said he has seen a couple wings fold with guys from his club flying hard on this plane. (dive loops and what-not), in spite of the spar.

Hi Brian, I'm curious about something. What kind of glue do you use for gap filling needs. I have zap med to thick CA but that doesn't fill gaps too good. I never tried micro balloons. Is that for gap filling and does it work well? Guess I just want to know what products you like for gap filling. thanks
  • @spikedart
I have always wondered about the sequence of events with SAFE. Now you have given us the rule.
  • @allenmoore9848
Hi Brian, thanks for hi-lighting a dangerous combination for "safe" equipped aircraft. Really sorry to see a busted airframe When you first mentioned a mistake, I had visions of car v's plane
  • @gregkienle3378
Brian, dude, we don't want to get all techied out...we just want to fly.
  • Hello Brian , you did a great job and now ,for my love, instal plastic 6mm bolts for the main wing ,instead of the rubber ribbon.....no ofence on me ...because I like you and Iowa too.
  • @TWSreviews
Great video.....love your content. I bet your neighbours love you.........lol In the UK our streets are way way smaller. Besides there would be a linch mob of 'do gooders' want me arrested for flying within 150m of buildings and people. I've Subscribed.....thanks
  • @alanwylie8960
Brian Phillips, job well done. I added flaps the same way you did to a Dynam C-47, except I used the 3M Blenderm tape, I didn't think about using the Dynam hinges like what my Dynam Grand Cruiser had for the flaps, that also looks like the same hinges you're using. I used two 9 gram Freewing digital servos, one reverse and one standard on a y connecter. I'm also using the HobbyEagle A3 AP gyro stabilizer and Spektrum AR8000 RX with my DX7 Gen2 TX for the C-47, it made a heck of a difference in landings.
  • Hi. Great series. I will eventually try this on my Apprentice. I would have removed small pieces of decal where the hot glue was used to fasten the'rods to the flaps. I thought it would be better to glue directly onto the foam than the decal which is sitting on top of the foam unless the hot glue melts the decal and the glue flows to the foam. Just a thought. Thanks
  • @grezzmunke
Good Evening! Thanks for your videos! Whats that low pitch frequency noise in the backround? @6:46 and @6:48 ish?? I have the same low freq noise on my new apprentice and I am hoping its the servos. Thanks!
