Hey yall. Commissioner here. Yeah, I made this because of the collab lol. Anyways, big shouts out to Therewolf for making it so good. Punishing Gray Raven and Black Rock Shooter are 2 IPs that were LONG overdue for tracks so im glad i was the first, plus this actually is a really good MU for both imo.
  • Hope everything goes well for you and Death Battle. I know a ton of your hardwork has centered around the community.

Man Black Rock Shooter is one of my favorite characters ever! Super happy to see her getting a fight, and I know of what Punishment: Gray Raven music can do (BRS even guest apperared there), so I can already picture how the music can go, and it'll be freaking amazing!

While idk much on the characters, I've seen this matchup before because the commissioner himself has showed the art way before, and honestly? This track makes me hyped for a matchup I have no knowledge on. Awesome job on this Therewolf!

Really freaking tired so this one may end up being full of absolutely nonsensical things, read at your own discretion (I am not responsible for any possible brain damage caused by reading the possible idiocies written in the rest of this comment.) Prior to listening to this one I was 100% unfamiliar with the characters (and frankly I still am even after looking them up) so I had no idea what to expect aside from maybe something relatively epic due to the track name. And in the end I can say that it was pretty much that and then some more. The end result turns out to be an orchestral rock track that not only sounds absolutely epic but also is catchy as as all hell. It almost feels more like a movie score than it does a VS track but honestly I'm all for it. It makes the song feel much more unique than it would be otherwise and it also opens the way for a track that's just generally extremely appreciable given that I absolutely adore every single genre that's mixed into it. Given my ignorance and lack of understanding of the characters I can't really say how much the track fits the characters if at all so on that side I'm somewhat stumped but that won't stop me from saying and reiterating my appreciation for the track itself and how it's built. The song starts feeling extremely orchestral and high in scales to give a direct feeling of size and power to it, even having chants inside of the first "break" that's still in the intro. As said above that gives the track a very score-like feel which is extremely appreciable. But before this fully settles in we get a direct transition at the minute mark where the song changes into a more "classic" rock track with fast and heavy guitar melodies that sound really nice and make the song feel much more active. Then, after a bit of that we get a sort of "teaser" of what's to come in the song with chants starting to appear at 1:45 for a short moment before cutting away, giving a clear impression that the battle is increasing in scale but not quite enough for the characters to unleash their strongest abilities that'd make the song shift into overdrive yet. Instead we then get a return to a more orchestral and grand--scale feeling at 2:12 which makes the song feel extremely epic and powerful once again. This segment then transitions back into a light mix of the more rock-like parts and the more orchestral bits at 2:38. It isn't a full on mix of the two as it's audible that the song doesn't go all out yet but you can feel how the song is readying itself to go all out for its finale. Which is why we get a slow transition that first switches at 3:12 into the rock part of the track gaining a distinct crescendo melody that makes the track build up anticipation and gain a more "raw" epic feeling that then culminates fully at 3:46 where we get the return of the orchestral segment for a final even more epic segment that adds up pretty much everything that the track has showcased up until now. It isn't overloaded either as the segment is really short but it gets across the power of a final clash between the two characters which is perfect for a song like that so there's 0 complaints on my end. All of that back and forth between pure rock and more orchestral segments is really appreciable to me as, first of all as said before it ticks all the boxes for me to like the song, it makes for a constantly shifting and fluid song that never feels boring or stagnant. It's catchy, unique and really good-sounding in general and that dynamic helps it a lot. Overall this track is the usual "didn't expect anything, ended up highly appreciating". Despite my total lack of knowledge of both franchises, let alone the characters, the track stands out as a very unique mix of orchestral and rock melodies that result in a score-like, highly fluid and catchy track that I'm sure anyone can appreciate it, fan of the characters or not. Amazing job as always with this.

Oh nice, Punishing Gray Raven gets their chance to shine in a commission, This gonna be good for everyone
  • You can't imagine how much I love this. Even more when I know the 2 will have a collab. BRS and PGR ❤
  • Great to see our first Hatsune Miku (-ish) commission. Okay, I looked it up. Apparently BRS being a Miku has always been a misconception. The track art would also go really well with glitchhop-metal-ska kinda battle music.

I hope one day someone asks me "whats the plot to Black Rock Shooter?" so I can reply with "do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?" For context; the two anime, the video game, and the manga have WILDLY different stories. Like not Final Fantasy where theres connected elements but some might be more tech focused and other more medieval. I mean the First anime is about girls hanging out in highschool while anime fights happen in another dimension, the video game is about a post apocolyptic world where BRS is an android who helps the remaining group of humans fight invading aliens (not to be confused with the second anime which is a similar plot but several elements are different) and the manga takes place in the afterlife where BRS is a reaper. I think the only connection between them is BRS herself and Dead Master.
