I met the real Joseph Pistone, the agent that Donnie Brasco was based on, at a Barnes & Noble book event when the movie came out. Joe explained that in real life he took the Diamond Professional course at the Gemology Institute of America. This is where real jewel professionals go to learn about stones. I looked into that course and it was 10K dollars. That's how he's able to look at the ring in the light and know right away. The book also mentions this in detail. He also kept a studio apartment around York Avenue. Back then, this was common as studio apartments in the area could be rented for less than a thousand bucks. . I remember the lines around the block in the movie theaters where it played. Right in the dead of winter. I saw it at the theater on 2nd Avenue and 12th Street. The Good Ole Days

“Ain’t that somethin? That a beautiful thing.” “Yeah, that’s a beautiful thing, but it’s not my thing.”

Donnie why'd you pay for them drinks? classic line, he just took the guys Porsche and he's worried about who pays for drinks. this movie is severely underrated. It is right up there with Goodfellas and the Godfather for best mob movie all-time

I cried at the end of this WONDERFUL movie. That scene where he takes his belongings off and leaves them in a drawer...OMG. Al Pacino could read a phone book and it would be fascinating, he's THAT gifted. ❤❤❤❤
  • al played several gangster roles...each one different from another...only a mastro can achieve such a thing...salude....

I love how Donnie makes the guy think he's the "good cop" and then proceeds to rough him up anyway lol

I loved Al PAcino's performance in this film. Inside that tough image he was just a lonely guy that wanted respect from someone.

Me and my best friend watched this movie 13 times when we were kids. We knew most of the dialogue by heart. Forget about it.
