I've been playing FFXIV for a few years now, and these are some of the useful "shortcuts" I've picked up along the way that I now use pretty much every time I log in and play. I hope these can be helpful to you! c:

"ew he's winking at me disgusting" killed me lol
  • First time I see someone that explains a focus target. Useful. (Edit after using it as healer.) It makes healing much more easier. I focus in the tank and put the window 200% in the middle. Top. And if you click on it, it selects the tank.

On Playstation controller, X is how you target the closest NPC. It's what I use 100% of the time. Press X again to confirm and talk to them. The only limitation is it's line of sight, so if the NPC isn't in your field of view, nothing will happen or you'll end up targeting a different NPC.

The "/hotbar change #" and "/chotbar change #" really opened the UI for me. First will change your hotbar 1 element to whatever number you choose, and I use this for combat, mainly to swap to an aoe layout. So with BRD for example, I have straight shot and quick knock on the same key depending on which bar is currently active, along with other skills that share the cooldowns. This greatly reduces both button bloat as well as visual clutter. For the cross hotbar, chotbar, I have a separate normal bar with 1-8 and I use this for the majority of my click-on, which gives me access to an additional 8x11 shortcuts (minus 1 for a macros themselves) in a clean and compact way. I have a bar dps, support, and crafters/gatherers, with the extra spots for food and other useful things to have on hand. The last one I want to add is my theme job swap, because I like having a specific title, minion and mount for each job. /gearset 1 1 (second number is glamour plate if you want) /title "heart of the party" /minion "wind-up airship" /micon minion "wind-up airship" (looks nicer than a white icon)

    Very useful video, thank you!

super helpful. particularly as someone just learning Healer. the focus target & 't' shortcut among others. THAAAANKS

another one i use in specific situations is numpad 5. it locks your camera onto a target and makes your movement relative to that target. so if you need to circle a target quickly you can just press that and then press a or d to circle them. left stick click is the default for controller.

I use the hide UI for taking screen shots in the MSQ because it removes texts too
  • Target filters can be set up on controller so that you press a button combo (like L1 + o) to only cycle thru npcs/objects, for example. It’s in character config-> control settings-> filters.

As far as I know NUMPAD 0 is just controler's generic confirm button, you can use it for so many things, tageting npcs/interactable objects (doors / quest objects / destinations), interacting with selected npc/object, advancing dialogue, confirming menu popups (sadly some popups defaults to cancel button focused instead of confirm). I have it bound to f key and use it all the time. By the way NUMPAD 2, NUMPAD 4, NUMPAD 6 and NUMPAD 8 function as d-pad for menu navigation.

I actually keybound turning all sound off to CTRL+S. WHen I do stuff that doesn't require a lot of thinking, I just put a video on, turn off the game sound and do my thing
  • @BushidoCypher
You can do tilt on controller, it's in the settings and can also make a macro for it. Just if anyone needs it. I played FF14 on keyboard for ages through ARR and HW especially but tbh controller is really good and it's just because the game was designed around controller. Both work really well though in all honesty.
  • @fluffykitten077
/bm is actually sheathe/unsheathe weapon. The same thing Z does.
  • @ThatSchmoGuy
[/roleplaying] for roleplay tag and [/nas off] to turn off the sprout near your name. I use the latter for my alts.
  • @fallow84
One more: battle effects. Most people like them on, but they're not practical to have on full for most for 8 man and 24 man duties. You can type /bfx off to kill them entirely, or /bfx party simple to have them on limited mode, and then /bfx all to turn em back on.

LS works on Xbox for dismount and dropping as well. Found that out after playing an fps where LS was sprint and did it accidentally in FFXIV 😂
  • @trevvy6587
Hey! I'm a new FF14 player and I've come across your channel and I really like the format of your videos is there a possibility you'd be doing a video on things to do to prep for the release of Dawntrail?

the hud layout one, i use something like that but i went farther with it and set one up for healer, one for dps and one for tank. the only difference really is the healer one has the party list bigger and more toward the center of the screen and the dps one has the party list smaller and on the side of the screen.
